HP will expand its Mini netbook series by a new model with aluminium case.

The new HP Mini 2140 netbook is equipped with a 10.2-inch 16:9 display. The manufacturer offers two different versions of the screen, which differ by their resolution. One offers 1.024 x 576 pixels and the other one provides a resolution of 1.366 x 768 pixels.
The included processor is the Intel Atom N270 CPU with 1.6 GHz and the Intel 945GSE chipset and an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 are built in as well. The netbooks RAM can get expanded up to 2 GB and a common hard drive with a capacity of 160 GB is installed as well. There are also two versions of the drive: one with 5.400 RPM and one with 7.200 RPM.
Furthermore, a VGA webcam, wireless LAN and n ExpressCard/54 slot are included too. The standard battery provides 3-cells but there is also a 6-cell battery available. The manufacturer claims a runtime of up to 8.5 hours with the bigger battery.
HP lets its customers decide between several operating systems. The 2140 can be equipped with Windows Vista Business, Vista Home Basic, Windows XP Home, SUSE-Linux or FreeDOS. Supposedly, the new netbook will be available in March and the price tag will start at € 600.
