The manufacturer Nvidia comes out with a new notebook chipset. Most Laptops with Intel CPU were equipped with an Intel chipset so far, but Nvidia wants to change this fact by its new chipset.

The internet news site Dailytech reported, that Nvidia developed the laptop chipset MCP79. This new chipset consists of only one chip, and all Intel chipsets use two (Northbridge and Southbridge).

In fact the chipset represents a whole chip family, which will be available in different price segment. It is designed for Small Factor notebooks and is equipped with up to date Nvidia graphics. Therefore, DirectX 10 is supported and a VP3 video processor is also included. This processor discharges the CPU and enhances the quality of HD content while playing.

Furthermore, the MCP79 platform is equipped with a single channel TMDS interface which provides a HDMI 2.1 port. The chipset offers a 1066MHz FSB and supports both DDR II RAM and DDR II RAM. Three SATA II connectors, a gigabit LAN port, HD audio and 20 PCIe lanes (2nd generation) are included too.

The MCP79 platform will be offered in six dissimilar versions, which differ in hardware configuration. For example, the low-cost version won’t be equipped with a RAID interface. One version offers Quadro graphics (MCP79GLM) and one provides SLI graphics (MCP79-SLI).

No word about availability of those new Nvidia chipsets so far.
