It is a cross between a netbook and a tablet
Always Innovating, founded by serial entrepreneur Grégoire Gentil, leverages the latest developments in open source technologies worldwide to create innovative products that solve real problems for consumers. The company is based in Menlo Park, California. The company has recently launched the Touch Book which has two different modes: one for use with keyboard and touchpad, and one for use as a standalone touchscreen tablet.
The Touch Book uses an innovative ARM processor (OMAP3530) from Texas Instruments that delivers the power of a traditional desktop computer but uses only a fraction of the energy, thereby delivering an uptime of about 10+ hours, which is more than sufficient. Moreover, this device is always-on and there is no need to reboot it each time. It is completely silent in operation because of lack of fans and movable mechanical hard drives.
The specifications of the Touch Book are as follows:
· ARM Texas Instruments OMAP3 chip
· 1024x600 8.9'' screen
· Storage: 8GB micro SD card
· Wifi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth
· 3-dimensional accelerometer
· Speakers, micro and headphone
· 6 USB 2.0 (3 internal, 2 external, 1 mini)
· Linux operating system
One would also get to see Mozilla's upcoming mobile browser, code-named Fennec, which was designed with touchscreen in mind, on the Touch Book. The innovative 3D interface is easy to use and does not require a stylus. The dimensions of the Touch Book are 9.4 x 7 x 1.4-inches and its weight is 2 pounds (with keyboard). The tablet alone would cost $299 whereas the user will have to shell out $99 more to buy the clip-on keyboard.
