Intels Atom CPU costs only $ 6 to $ 8

Category: notebook components

The low-end model of Intels Atom CPU costs $ 30, but its cost of production is only $ 6 to $8.

The new Intel Atom CPU is made for notebook usage. It is not as powerful as its Core 2 Duo colleagues, but its power consumption is much lower. We already reported that Asus is planning to equip its Eee PC with those CPUs, and they pay about $ 30 for one Intel Atom CPU. This is not very much for a mobile x86 CPU, but the cost of production of one CPU (low-end) is much lower. The factory cost of one Intel Atom CPU is rumored to be only $ 6 to $ 8, including package and shipping.
