Samsung starts mass production of 128 GB SSD
The manufacturer Samsung expands its product line by a new solid state drive. The new SSD needs less power and can be produced cheaper.
Samsung starts the mass production of a new solid state drive. The drive will be available in 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch and provides a disk size of 64 GB or 128 GB.
The SATA II SSD is based on a 64 MLC NAND flash chip. It is expected, that the new SSD lasts 20 times longer than a normal hard drive and it reached a writing speed of 70 MB/sec and a reading speed of 90 MB/sec. The SSD’s power consumption is very low as well, because it only needs 0.2 watt in idle mode and 0.5 watt while working.
Samsung will start the mass production of another solid state drive as well. The drive provides 256 GB and its production will start at the end of this year.
