Kuki Linux will be resumed shortly
After an announcement of going down indefinitely, this move is refreshing to see
Just recently Kuki Linux developers’ team has stopped working on the netbook Linux platform, citing real-life distractions. But Thanks to Liliputing, I got to know today that they have resumed their kernel development.
On Nov 7th, one of the members of the Development team, Leak, has posted on the kuki blogsite that he has been busy with moving places, and his fellow developer vw72 has been suffering from serious health problem that might take unknown time to recede. He assured that you could still download the available builds, but not to expect any major updates for some time.
But then not long ago, on 23rd, a pleasant surprise was waiting for the Kuki enthusiasts. Leak mentioned that things are improving and they will resume updating works on Kuki. Vw72’s is recovering well, and although Leaks problems are not solved totally, he’ll slowly be back on track with the development work. In the meantime they have tested Asus EEE 1008 HA successfully with the latest build.
Kuki is a lightweight Ubuntu-based Linux OS founded by João Ferro (leak), built to be a replacement for the Linpus Lite distribution on the Acer Aspire One. It uses XFCE 4.6 as a window manager and features lightweight software like Firefox 3.0, Mplayer, Audacious, Pidgin, Abiword, and Gnumeric. The operating system has a fairly small footprint, with the disk image only being about 400 MB. Developers have claimed that the next release, 3.0 takes roughly 1.1 GB of disk space and allows the OS to boot up in 11 seconds.
