WiMAX stack for Linux

Category: other notebook news

By: Matthias Bauer

Intel started developing a Linux stack for a possible WiMAX chipset.

Intels most actual project is related to its wireless technology WiMAX. The 802.16 standard for wireless data transfer shall be able to be used by Linux as well. This gets possible by a kernel stack, which provides a port to WiMAX device control. Userspace Daemons and libraries provide a high end API.

The kernel follows the GPL, but some drivers do not. They subject a BSD licence, and WiMAX Network Service too. A firmware image is needed for using this driver.
