This solution is expected to reach 1Gbps
The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is reportedly two years away of introducing improved Wi-Fi standards with higher data throughput. In 2012 the 802.11ac, which will upgrade the 802.11a, will supposedly be launched.
This new technology will allegedly increase data transfer rates and will reach 1Gbps. This is nearly three times the speed of 802.11n today, which is 300Mbps.
The 802.11ac standard will allegedly use 80Mhz or 160MHz channels, offering higher bandwidth. The new technology might appear in late 2011 as a draft standard.
It is possible that these specs change as the officially approved 802.11ac is expected to launch in December 2012.
