Dell has recently launched the Studio 14z notebook which is aimed at students. The Studio 14z is a slim, easy-to-carry laptop with a large hard drive. It also gives users the freedom to choose from a variety of colors. The only thing is that it lacks an optical drive, which helps in reducing the weight of this notebook. It sports a stylish look with a thin (0.79–1.2-inches) design.

Dell Studio 14z has an energy efficient, mercury free, 14-inch 16:9 aspect ratio LED display which is capable of delivering HD content at 720p and 900p (means a resolution of 1280x720 and 1600x900 respectively). It is powered either by an Intel Pentium Dual Core or Intel Core2 Duo processor. The graphics are provided by Nvidia's GeForce 9400 GPU, which is also found on current 13-inch MacBooks, and is capable of delivering some decent gaming performance. The audio on this notebook is pretty good and is provided by 4W, SRS enabled, 2.0 audio with discrete tweeters and dual headphone jacks. Although Dell has removed the optical drive on this notebook to loose some weight, it has provided the users with a mammoth 500GB of hard disk storage, for all the music, games, and videos.

The Studio 14z is the industry’s first notebook available with FailSafe theft prevention system. This option helps protect personal data in case of laptop theft. Owners will be able to track network information and the ISP location of the stolen laptop when it connects to the Internet, and would also be able to remotely erase selected files and render the laptop unusable until the rightful owner unlocks it.

The other specifications of this notebook are:

·         1.3MP webcam with facial recognition software and dual digital microphone arrays

·         HDMI display port

·         Optional 8-in-1 Media Card Reader via 34mm Express Card slot

·         eSATA connectivity

·         Standard Wi-Fi, optional Bluetooth and mobile broadband

·         Optional DVD+/-RW, Blu-ray Disc read-only and read-write drives

Dell Studio 14z is available in a variety of colors like Black Chain Link, Midnight Blue, Spring Green, Plum Purple, Ruby Red, and Promise Pink. Dell will donate $5 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, if any one purchases the Promise Pink color. The retail price of this notebook has been kept at $649.
