Toshiba shows its new SCIB laptop battery

Toshiba reveals prototype of fast-charging, long-life SCIB laptop battery

Toshiba showed a prototype of its fast-charging SCiB (Super Charge Ion Batteries) battery designed for laptops. SCiB batteries were introduced last year, with the first versions designed for industrial applications. The Toshiba's SCiB 24V/4.2Ah battery module for laptops can be charged up to 45 percent in 5 minutes and up to 90 percent its full capacity within just 10 minutes. It can last longer than lithium-ion batteries. For comparison: SCiB battery can last from 5,000 to 6,000 recharge cycles and standard lithium-ion battery around 500 cycles. And the good news is that it should be just slightly more expensive then the standard battery.

Toshiba did not say when SCiB laptop batteries will hit the market.
