The Via inside can play 1080p easily

The Via Nano platform is becoming a huge hit in China, as a cheaper and comparatively better value of money. These two factors are tempting manufacturers away from the Intel Atom architecture. The latest product to adopt the Via U1700 chip is the 12.2” Chupin VIA C855. The USP of this chip is that it can enable 1080p HD playing capability.

The Chupin C855 sports a 12.2” display panel with 1366 x 768 pixels resolution, 1GB RAM and 160GB HDD. Connectivity is taken care of by the 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth. Other I/O ports include HDMI and VGA out, 3x USB, audio jacks. It also has a SIM card slot and is 3G ready, and comes with Windows XP.

It is not the first to come with a Via Nano processor. Top Crown Technology unveiled the 3G Netbook in August. This model is powered by the VIA Nano processor and VX855 Northbridge/Southbridge combo solution, which is believed to be the first model in this category.

Via is a very distant third of the Processor makers, after Intel and AMD, and had less than 5% of the Global market share. But due to the cost effectiveness, the Asian market is increasingly adopting Via. It remains to be seen what impact it will have on a global scale, which is till now dominated by Intel.
