Intel leaves one-laptop-per-child project.

One Laptop per child

One Laptop per child

The one-laptop-per-child (OLPC) initiative was created for bringing cheap notebooks to developing countries and for increasing educational opportunities for children. Therefore the educational opportunities for every child of these countries should be advanced. Intel left this organisation after a long conflict and quitted its co-operation. Intel wanted getting exclusive rights for providing processors and the organisation did not want Intel equipping Asus Eee PC and stop working on its own notebook for developing countries (Classmate). The OLPC-organisation suffered a hard setback. Furthermore the costs of one laptop raised to $ 200,- and the performance of it is not very good. Many applications do not work, or they are running very slow. Therefore the sales figures are low, because only 100 000 pieces where ordered in 2007. We hope that this project won’t get stopped, because the notebooks are needed in those countries.
