Sony debuts the new FW series available for ordering.

The FW series

The FW series

It lets you watch high definition movies. It is sleek and sexy in the typical Sony way. And at 16.4-inch – it is huge! The new FW series, as the tagline says “Inspired by theaters. Born from Sony” – comes to you with full HD support thanks to the innovative XBRITE-FullHD LCD technology. The 1080p HD viewing along with Blu-ray disc drive is prepared keeping in mind the 16:9 aspect ratio as many films are shot with this widescreen ratio. It comes in two variants – the VGN FW45 V and the VGN FW45 X.

VGN FW45 V

It has the ever-popular Intel Core 2 Duo processor with up to 2.80 GHz of clock speed. You get by default a 320GB ATA drive with 5400 rpm, which can be upgraded to 500GB ATA or a 256GB Ultra ATA Flash SSD by shelling out US $1400.3 – OUCH! The brain contains a 3GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM which can be upgraded to 4GB. Graphics will be handled by the ATI Mobility Radeon HD3470 (256MB), which can be raised to 512MB and a still unnamed HD 4000 Series card. Apart from them the FW45 V supports Blu-ray and comes pre-installed with Vista Home Premium. The battery promises up to 5.5 hrs of life.

This monster comes to you at £ 653.99 inc. VAT ($1040.7).

VGN FW45 X

There’s not much difference with the FW45 V, except that it has by default what you get by paying extra in the FW45 V – like the 2.80GHz Core 2 Duo, 500GB hard disk and 8GB RAM. Basically it’s an upgrade of the FW45 V, and if you pay extra and put the add-ons in the FW45 V, you’ll get the FW45 X.

Apart from these two models, there are ready-made models – FW31ZJ, FW31M, FW21Z, FW21M, FW21L and FW21E – they all are insignificantly different from each other.
