Boxee Box is now armed with Intel Atom CE4100 and up for pre-order as well

The set-top entertainer now gets a better ultraportable processor, promises two parallel 1080p playbacks

At the beginning of this year, Boxee has launched a previously not seen design, more like that of set-top box to execute their media center software. When the device gets launched, it sports a low end NVIDIA Tegra 2 chip suited for 1080p HD video playback. The good news is that the low –end Tegra will be now be replaced by 1.2GHz Intel Atom CE4100 processor with the latest pre-order that is on offer. Boxee said that choosing Atom over Tegra is because of Atom’s capability to handle 1080p H.264 video playback than that of Tegra’s. If you remember, the Tegra 2 is the next generation platform that features world’s first dual-core ARM Cortex A9 processing chip, and an NVIDIA graphics card. It can process HD video playback, but the CE4100 has some critical advantages over it (as explained below) when it comes to a system dedicated to enjoy multimedia.

The Atom CE4100 is not new to the market. This Atom chip cannot deliver the desired graphics without any add-ons to the chip. But the CE4100 chip can very well handles two 1080p HD video playback simultaneously. It also supports Adobe Flash 10, H.264 video and 3D graphics.

As suggested by some blogger, it is not worthwhile to buy a separate box for about $200 because if the policies of the company get changed or if they are not making money over their new products then your box is of no use.

Boxee is expecting to ship the device in November and the price tag is set for about $229. Pre-order of Boxee Box is under way, if you want to see the details, go visit Amazon’s pre-order page.
