Dell works on an Eee-PC like notebook

Dell also wants to bring a low-cost notebook on the market. This laptop will be manufactured by Compal Electronics.

The Eee PC is very successful, and some manufacturers want to take advantage of the rush on low-cost notebooks too. Even Dell wants that, and plans developing a laptop of this class.

Compal Electronics, which is the second biggest supplier of Dell, said that they are going to manufacture an 8” notebook for Dell and they are going to start at June 2008. At the beginning the production shall be about 200.000 to 300.000 parts, but they want to increase manufacturing to two to three million parts in the course of the year. No word about hardware so far.
