The Dell Streak was launched in the UK back in June this year amidst a lot of fanfare. The ultraportable was made available to UK consumers by wireless provider O2 and it currently ships with the Android 1.6 OS. And now, wireless provider O2 has announced that the Dell Streak is set to receive its first OS update in the form of Android 2.1.

Reportedly, Dell Streak users will get an over-the-air (OTA) update of the Android 2.1 OS on Wednesday, September 1. Amidst all these reports, there is no mention of when US users will get the OS update.

The upgradation to Android 2.1 will add pinch-to-zoom to the Streak, as well as 720p HD recording on the 5 megapixel camera, and other goodies as support for live wallpapers. Although the latest Android version is 2.2, Streak is yet to receive this version, even though other devices as HTC Desire already have it.
