It is to be rolled out next month

Archos 13 is pretty classy notebook from the French portable computer giant. Now Engadget reports of an updated Archos 13 called the A13PS coming next month. Although this device was displayed during CeBIT 2010, but got overshadowed by the better known brands.

It will now have an Intel D510 CPU, which is the latest Pinetrail-based processor from the American chip giant which is generally intended for the nettops. This CPU will have two cores and four threads to its credit, and will be the first Atom processor to have a dual-core architecture, which is expected to enhance the performance greatly. With 1.66GHz of clock speed and 1MB of L2 cache memory, this processor is the king of Atoms, right there in the league of the CULV processors.

Apart from that the A13PS will sport a 13-inch screen (as the name suggests), 2GB of RAM and 160GB of hard disk space. This, coupled with the default 10-cell battery, should give you a great machine that you can carry all-day long.

The exterior has a brown texture, which continues around the keyboard area. The keyboard and the monitor areas are black. The keyboard is comfortable, but they could have used the space both on the right and left side. It should come pre-loaded with a Windows 7 Home Premium. At 1.08 cm, it will be one of the thinnest netbook around when it arrives.

This updated Archos 13 laptop should be available from next month, and looking at the $800 price-tag of the existing A13, the A13PS sure would not come cheap. The A13 was in fact Archos’ first attempt at a full-fledged notebook, as the French company is generally involved in manufacturing MP3players and its very popular line of Mobile Internet Devices.
