Samsung GO comes with anti-theft technology
It uses Phoenix Failsafe to protect your netbook
Users can stop worrying about their Samsung GO (N310) netbook getting lost because even if it does get stolen, its location can be easily tracked, thanks to the Phoenix Failsafe anti-theft technology which is used on this netbook. Phoenix Failsafe not only helps in locating your stolen netbook but also protects your data from being stolen. Let us see how this technology works!
FailSafe is built into the BIOS (part of the hardware that controls the startup process), as well as Windows, and enables the user to manage the N310 remotely, over the Internet. If the netbook is stolen it can be located in the following three ways:
· When connected to the internet the netbook will let you know the IP address as well as the ISP of the thief.
· If the netbook is connected by Wi-Fi, owners can get information like the SSID of the wireless network, signal strength and encryption used.
· If connected to a GPS receiver, the owner can track down the exact co-ordinates of the netbook.
Besides all this, the owner can remotely activate the built-in webcam to click photos of the thief. A key logger can also be installed which can help capture useful information, such as the email addresses being used, usernames and so on, all of which can help identify the thief.
Moreover, the Phoenix Failsafe technology can help protect important data stored on the netbook. Once a user is connected to the N310 remotely, he has many options like – he can choose to retrieve any files stored on the hard drive, can erase files and folders stored on the N310’s hard drive, can encrypt the data so it can’t be accessed, but remains intact, or he can even choose to disable the netbook.
