New Surface tablets coming in 2014
Those waiting for a Haswell refresh of the Surface Pro might have a longer wait than they hoped. Microsoft has recently released information indicating that while a refresh of the company's tablets (both Pro and RT) is planned, they are slated for some unknown date in the next year.
A presentation given by Microsoft CEO Kevin Turner at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference included the attached slide detailing upcoming innovations for the next year. While the details are rather vague and only include “Update for Surface RT” and “Update for Surface Pro” it's pretty safe to assume that these will be completely revamped versions of the tablets.
Rumors point to a new Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.3 GHz processor for the RT as well as LTE functionality. While the Pro may get a keyboard dock as part of the listed “New Accessories”. The “New Windows 8.1 Device” could be an 8-inch Surface tablet since we've seen more than one story circulate about this possible new gadget. Also given that Acer currently have the only sub 10-inch Windows 8 tablet on the market (Iconia W3), it certainly seems likely that Microsoft would want to get in on the action.
Finally the last bit of Surface news seems to be “New Accessory Colors” which could mean a wider range of Touch Covers and maybe even a Type Cover that isn't black.
