Benchmark results for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 have started rolling in, and they show a notable improvement from Turing cards, but not at 1080p. The RTX 3080 even handily outperforms the RTX 2080 Ti, paving the way for the RTX 3090.

Videocardz has posted several benchmarks for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 ahead of a supposed embargo that ends on September 14. We have included the benchmark results below should you wish to pour over them. The results are in keeping with other benchmarks that have been published in the last few weeks.

Unsurprisingly, the RTX 3080 outperforms Turing cards like the RTX 2080 Ti and RTX 2080 SUPERVideocardz benchmarked NVIDIA's mid-tier Ampere card in various 3DMark tests, along with in Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Far Cry New Dawn at multiple graphics settings. The latter ranged from as low as 1080p in Far Cry New Dawn to 2160p.

According to the website, the RTX 2080 Ti averaged 24% lower scores than the RTX 3080, while the RTX 2080 SUPER fell 37% behind. Likewise, the RTX 2070 SUPER and RTX 2060 SUPER scored 45% and 50% lower than the RTX 3080, respectively. Interestingly, hardly anything separates the RTX 3080 from the RTX 2080 Ti at 1080p in Far Cry New Dawn.

The real benefits from NVIDIA's Ampere architecture come at 4K, but there is a more apparent gap between the RTX 3080 and RTX 2080 Ti in Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Undoubtedly, the true benefits of the RTX 3080 and the Ampere architecture will reveal themselves over the next few weeks.
