Meizu MX6 promo shows Ubuntu options

The smartphone may have an alternative SKU with Ubuntu instead of Android

The Meizu MX5 successor will reportedly come in both Android And Ubuntu SKUs with the Helio X20 SoC. Other core specifications like screen size remain unknown.

Meizu is one of the very few manufacturers to offer smartphones pre-loaded with a choice of either Ubuntu or Android. Thus, it's no surprise that this year's MX series will also have the option for buyers according to leaked promotional images for the MX6. The smartphone series succeeds last year's MX5 and will apparently start at 400 Euros for the 32 GB version.

Some specifications for the MX6 have also been made public from the promotional material including the octa-core MediaTek Helio X20 SoC. This is compared to the Helio X10 SoC in the MX5 and the slightly faster Helio X25 SoC in the Meizu Pro 6. Other rumored features include 3 GB RAM, 4000 mAh battery, a 20.7 MP rear camera, and a Samsung AMOLED panel. Whether or not its display size will remain at 5.5-inches like its predecessor is known. The 5.2-inch Meizu Pro 6, for example, is actually smaller than its 5.7-inch Pro 5 predecessor. A second SKU with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB eMMC is also expected.

An official announcement for the MX6 should be coming later this month with launch date details to follow.
