Reviews for the MALIBAL Satori

76% Malibal Satori Series

When it comes to pure processing power, the Malibal Satori is king of the notebook hill. This sharp-looking 17-inch gaming notebook owns all other notebooks when it comes to overall system performance, and it is loaded with high-end parts, including an Intel Core i7 processor, an enthusiast-class Nvidia GeForce GPU, dual solid-state drives, and a Blu-ray burner. This sleek 17-inch gaming notebook sports top components at a hefty price. Overall performance is excellent, but 3D performance lagged behind that of similarly priced gaming rigs.

Priced at just under $4,000, the Malibal Satori is a money-draining gaming rig, but it’s not quite as expensive as a similarly configured Alienware M17x ($4,543; Core i7-920XM CPU, 8GB of RAM, twin 128GB SSDs, Blu-ray burner). Still, for this price you get outstanding across-the-board performance that outpaces the $5,952 Origin EON18. While we’re not impressed by the design of this system, it’s a rig that’s worth considering for those who prioritize performance and value.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285M:

Essentially a minimally higher-clocked GTX 280M based on the same G92b core with an overall performance increase of about 3-6%.

With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.

820QM:

The Core i7-820QM is a high-end quad core CPU for laptops that clocks due to the Turbo Mode from 1.73-3.06 GHz. Therefore, the processor combines the advantages of fast single core CPUs and slow quad-core CPUs. Hyperthreading allows the simultaneous use of 8 Threads in parallel.

17.3": Meanwhile the 17 inch display size is a more frequently offered standard format for desktop-replacements. The DTR-laptops can't be carried easily, need much energy but on the other side texts can be read easily and high resolutions are no problem. DTR mainly are intended for stationary usage on desks, where the weight and the energy need are unimportant.

3.9 kg: This laptop is heavy below average, compared with the average of notebooks. Therefore especially desktop replacements fit in this class of weight.

MALIBAL: MALIBAL (pronounced mal-la-bull is located in Las Vegas and focusses high-end, customized notebook computers and mobile servers.

73%: This rating is bad. Most notebooks are better rated. This is not a recommendation for purchase.
