Reviews for the MSI GE62VR 7RF-417ES

MSI GE62VR 7RF Camo Squad Review: Heavy Hitter
Source: Unbox English Archive.org version
The MSI GE62VR 7RF is a pretty solid performing notebook that’s quite capable of running most AAA games today. It’s a little expensive though, at Php 109,995, even with the freebies that MSI throws in when you buy one. Personally we’d rather skip the freebies and get the regular notebook if MSI Philippines offered that option.

MSI GE62 VR Camo Squad Unboxing, Quick Review: Weapon Of Choice?
Source: Unbox English Archive.org version
The MSI GE62VR 7RF is equipped with a 7th generation Intel Core i7 processor, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with 6GB of VRAM, 16GB of DDR4 2400 RAM, 256GB of SSD storage (M.2 SSD) and 1TB of HDD storage. Those specs are more than enough to run modern games, or at the very least the copy of Ghost Recon: Wildlands that’s included with the purchase. We’ll have to see how it fares in the other games that we have in our library.

When it comes to gaming notebooks, no other company stands out more than MSI with their bleeding edge innovation. The MSI GE62VR has a design as classic as can be for a gaming notebook, with the whole system weighing 2.4 kg, minus the power brick. In terms of chassis and build, the GE62VR looks sleek with its industrial looking design, thanks to its brushed aluminum construction, which gives it a much more solid aesthetic. While the main body of the notebook is quite solid, the same cannot be said for the lid: Despite its aluminum construction, there seems to be a slight flex to it, which means putting heavy objects on top of it is a no-go. For hardware, the GE62VR boasts an Intel 7th-generation quadcore Core i7-7700HQ processor with a dedicated desktop-grade Nvidia GTX1060 graphics card. It can also be equipped with up to 64GB of DDR4 memory, but by default the GE62VR comes with 16GB of memory. Due to the VR notation one might have guessed that this notebook is also VR certified and ready. Like most of MSI’s gaming notebook lineup, the GE62VR includes several exclusive technologies, such as SHIFT, which allows the system to boost beyond its normal limits while reducing noise and temperature dynamically without the user's intervention.

As most notebooks of its class these days are seeing rapid adoption of the USB-3.1 Type-C standard, which allows for high transfer rates between devices, the GE62VR is equipped with one such port. Moving on to the visual display aspects of the device, MSI is offering a 4K 100% Adobe-RGB certified IPS panel, which should be an added benefit to content creation users on the go. The default specification comes with a standard FHD panel, so should the user wish to opt for 4K, it is highly recommended since the hardware is more than beefy enough to leverage the added pixel count. Continuing with the input aspects of the GE62VR, there is the touchpad and keyboard: The touchpad is mediocre at best because of its rough texture affecting some usability due to friction. The keyboard, however, remains one of MSI's and Steelseries' best collaboration with good travel distance and feedback, even more so when it comes to typewriting, which this keyboard excels at. Another additional feature of the keyboard is its RGB backlight, which helps with low light situations and is nice for those who like to show off. The only downside of the keyboard backlight is that the colours can only be set per zone and not per key. Along with most MSI notebooks, the GE62VR also comes with additional user-experience-boosting software, such as the Nahimic audio enhancing software for sound, and a 1 year free premium subscription license for the Xsplit Gamecaster broadcasting software for gamers who are game content streamers. Unfortunately, due to this being a high-performance notebook, bad battery life is unavoidable; nonetheless at 3 hours on medium load, it is on par with most notebooks of this class. The final verdict is: Whether you are a content creator or a gamer on the go, MSI’s line of notebooks is sure to impress.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Mobile: The mobile GTX 1060 is based on the GP106 chip and offer 1280 shaders. Compared to the identically named desktop version it features a slightly lower clock rate. Games in Full HD and maximum details should run fluently on the card.

With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.

i7-7700HQ: Quad-core notebook processor based on the Kaby Lake architecture. Besides four CPU cores (including Hyper Threading), the chips also integrates the HD Graphics 630 GPU and is manufactured in an improved 14 nm process.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

15.60":

15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.

The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.
