Reviews for the MSI GE62 2QD
The entry-level enthusiast. The GTX 960M has arrived and iBuyPower are already geared up with the new GPU for their current OptiBoost lineup. Is this the Maxwell card to own for the mass market?

Most gamers turn to desktops because they are inexpensive to buy or build, can be upgraded with ease, and offer solid performance. The alternative is gaming-focused desktop replacement notebooks that, while heavy, are infinitely more portable than a desktop PC. A feature-rich and potent gaming notebook that also packs serious punch when it comes to value for money.

Sensibly powered for great games action, while remaining portable and comfortable to use, the GE62 is only compromised by tricky upgrade potential and disappointing battery life. It has a great display and respectable keyboard for gaming, and crucially plays games at high detail without distress.

In short, the MSI GE62 Apache is a well-rounded gaming laptop with solid real-world performance and a wallet-friendly price. This notebook falls short in terms of battery life and gets a little too hot for prolonged “laptop” use, but any other complaints are pretty minor. We highly recommend the MSI 6E62 Q2E Apache if you’re looking for a 15-inch laptop that can play just about any game and you need to spend less than $1,500.

The MSI GE62 2QD Apache does enough to be well worth considering as a slimmer and lighter alternative to your more typical bulky 15in gaming laptop. Plus, for its price of just over £1000 it offers competitive performance. However, the keyboard layout and a few other minor irritations means it doesn’t quite win us over completely.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M: Upper mid-range graphics card of the GeForce GTX 900M series.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
4720HQ: Haswell-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.6 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.6 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
15.60":
15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.MSI: Micro-Star International (MSI) was founded in 1986 in Taiwan. MSI is especially known as a manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards for PCs, but also offers computer accessories, complete systems, motherboards, graphics cards, laptops, desktop PCs, monitors and other components. However, the Microstar brand name in Germany belongs to the Medion company. MSI is known for its gaming products and has developed a wide range of gaming laptops and desktop PCs. The company is also active in workstations, servers and industrial automation. MSI has offices in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
79.8%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
