Multimedia Nexus. Desktop replacement notebooks are a dime a dozen, and Lenovo has tossed its hat into the ring with its introduction of the IdeaPad Y570, a strange hybrid between a media center and a portable business notebook. While the last part could be a little doubtful, the Y570’s style, fit, finish, and power-saving features make it an attractive pick for the shopper interested in a multimedia center with no compromises.

All for less than $1000 although the lack-luster display might put some multimedia buffs off. The display is usually the weakest link in very well-priced notebooks, and the IdeaPad Y570 is no exception – if breath-taking visuals are your thing, you might want to shell out a little more, or compromise on other features to get a premium display.

The 15.6-inch Lenovo IdeaPad Y570 is a great multimedia/entertainment laptop, and receives our recommendation. If you're in the market for a notebook that can play HD movies, run most of the latest games, and won't break the bank, consider the Y570. The designers somehow found a way to combine decent build quality, hardware that lends to good performance, stunning audio, a great port selection, and an appealing design into a package that is modestly priced.

We all know Lenovo for their ThinkPad line, but you are really going to start to know Lenovo for their IdeaPad line. First the U260, which was one of the most elegant and thin Windows-based notebooks we have seen and now the Y570, which is a laptop that can pretty much do anything – play games, playback HD video and much more. This is one of the most complete laptops I have seen in a while.

If you're shopping for a midsize 15.6-inch laptop, there are a lot of choices out there, to put it mildly. A sharp-looking mainstream laptop with decent graphics and some configuration flexibility, the IdeaPad Y570 is a solid alternative to some of the better-known consumer laptop brands.

Complaints about crapware and keyboard aside, the Y570 is actually an extremely capable laptop with a solid build and impressive performance. Just let it be noted: Most of us would rather pay an extra 20 bucks up front and get back the time and frustration wasted on uninstalling junk.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y570 is the kind of desktop replacement that only the purest of performance enthusiasts can appreciate. It's packed with a powerful Core i5 processor and one of the best graphics chips at this price. The user experience and better-than-adequate feature set are also worthy of praise. Its only misstep is that it didn't pay enough attention to certain design details, particularly color selection and case thickness, which is critical nowadays. The Dell XPS 15z (Microsoft) is a more well-rounded and well-presented desktop replacement, if you ask me.

With the IdeaPad Y570, you get a good amount of power for your money, and a useful software bundle. The notebook has a new skin that looks unique and any gamer will love the copper heat sinks that you can see through the heat vent. The second gen Intel Core CPU has excellent performance in this system and does save some power when unplugged thanks to Intel HD3000 graphics. Minor issues we have with the IdeaPad Y570 include the keyboard, which could use better travel and the typical glare from the glossy display.

Lenovo's update to their 15-inch IdeaPad offers some solid features for a laptop that can be found for under $1000. Performance is good thanks to the new Core i5-2410M and NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M graphics. This combined with a large hard drive and Blu-ray make it an excellent multimedia platform.

Lenovo’s Ideapad Y570 is not what you’d call a portable notebook, but it makes up for this drawback vastly with its remaining characteristics. All the latest technologies and high-performance components included provide users with very pleasant and comfortable work, gaming or multimedia enjoyment. Even some similarly priced desktop systems would have trouble competing with it – Lenovo has certainly made this a well-rounded offering. Its only real flaw that may reduce its value depending on your needs is the low display resolution, but with the very advanced and fast hardware on the other side, as well as an unbeatable price, this minus quickly fades into oblivion.

Lenovo: Lenovo Group Limited is China's largest and the world's fourth largest personal computer manufacturer. Lenovo produces desktops, laptops, servers, handheld computers, imaging equipment, and mobile phone handsets. Lenovo also provides information technology integration and support services, and its QDI unit offers contract manufacturing. Its executive headquarters are located in China and USA. It is incorporated in Hong Kong. Lenovo was formed in 1984 as a spin-off of the Chinese Academy of Sciences new technology unit. The company initially began as a reseller, distributor and later CM for foreign brands, including IBM, entering the Chinese market. In 1990, Lenovo started to manufacture its own PCs and by 1997 became the market leader in China. In 2004, Lenovo bought IBM’s PC business for $1.25billion. Market share regarding sales of personal computers in 2007 (market research IDC): HP 18.9 %, Dell 16.4 %, Acer 9.9 %, Lenovo 7.5 %, Apple 5.7 %
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M:
As the successor to the GeForce GT 445M, the GT 555M is available in many different versions based on different chips (GF106, GF116, GF108) with different graphics memory (128 Bit, 192 Bit, DDR3, GDDR5) and varying core speeds.

Intel Core i5:
2410M:
Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. The CPU is clocked at 2.3 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.6-2.9 GHz) and the GPU at 650 (1200 MHz Turbo).
2430M: Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. The CPU is clocked at 2.4 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.7-3 GHz) and the GPU at 650 (1200 MHz Turbo).
Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
2630QM: Fast Quad-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller.
2670QM: Fast Quad-core processor clocked at 2.2-3.1 GHz based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller.
15.6: 15 inch display-variants are the standard and are used for more than the half of all notebooks. 15.4 inch display with 16:10 are the standard for notebook displays. However nowadays, more and more 16:9 displays with 15.6 inch appear. The reason why so many people like displays with medium size is, that this size is not exhausting for the eyes, does not need too much energy and the laptops can be kept quite compact.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
2.2 kg:
These sub-notebooks weight less than the average of all notebooks, but represent a heavier class of weight among the sub-notebooks. 13 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.
2.7 kg:
This notebook is lighter than the average of all notebooks. It is too heavy for sub-notebooks. 14 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.
79.8%: This rating is not convincing. The laptop is evaluated below average, this is not really a recommendation for purchase.
