Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 9i Core i7-1165G7 has slower CPU performance than the Yoga 9i Core i5-1135G7

As if Lenovo's extensive library of 14-inch laptops isn't confusing enough, the manufacturer has just added another model to its long list. The IdeaPad Slim 9i is now shipping with 11th gen Tiger Lake-U Core i5 and Core i7 CPUs alongside other software and hardware features under the Intel Evo standard.

With so many 14-inch laptops under Lenovo's belt, some peculiarities are perhaps inevitable. The Core i7-1165G7 IdeaPad Slim 9i, for example, can actually run slower than the Core i5-1135G7 Yoga 9i which starts at hundreds of dollars less than the Core i7 IdeaPad Slim 9i. The difference may be marginal by only about 4 percent according to some benchmarks, but the price difference is comparatively more significant by a few hundred dollars between these two configurations.

To make up for the deficit, the Core i7 IdeaPad Slim 9i has faster graphics performance than the Core i5 Yoga 9i by up to 20 percent. Part of this is attributed to our Slim 9i configuration having twice the RAM, however, and so it's certainly a deficit than the Yoga 9i can narrow if configured with more memory. The performance differences here are generally not significant enough to impact the target audience of students or office users.
