Leaked images show a Blackberry made for Indonesia
After being relatively silent for years, it looks like Blackberry may be back. The KeyOne, recently shown at MWC this week, has everyone talking about Blackberry once again. We’ve only just seen their newest device for North America, but leaked images of a Blackberry for a different market have recently surfaced online.
The Blackberry BBC100-1, made by PT BB Merah Putih, is pegged for the Indonesian market. The 5.5-inch device is supposedly specced to match the emerging market. With a 720p screen, 1.4 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 425, 4 GB of RAM, and 32 GB of storage, the BBC100-1 is definitely aimed at smaller budgets but is impressive compared to other devices typically sold in emerging markets. Dual-SIM support and a 3000 mAh battery should make it a very capable mobile device as well.
But Blackberry addicts hoping to get an affordable low-specced device shouldn’t hold their breath; while an upcoming Blackberry device (most likely this one) has been certified in Indonesia, there’s no telling if BB will release it outside of the island nation.
Remember, all we have to go on for now is a small leak and some pictures, so take this with a grain of salt. However, it could be a smart move for the still-ailing Blackberry to branch out into developing or untapped markets. We’ll have to see if Indonesia is in Blackberry’s plans and if the company can strike gold with a different audience.
