Is the stylus the star? LG's Stylus 2 already points to the pen in the name. However, the phablet offers a feature that steals the show from the stylus. Find out what this is in our report.

With its underwhelming screen resolution, mediocre performance, and bland design, the LG Stylus 2 doesn’t make a strong case for consideration above current affordable champs such as the Moto G4. Indeed, with a launch price of around £250, it seems grossly overpriced. The Stylus 2’s prospects aren’t massively enhanced by a competent if inessential digital pen system and curiously archaic DAB+ support. On the plus side, its main camera is capable of some decent (if far from spectacular) results, and its battery life is truly stellar.

LG Stylus 3
The LG Stylus 3 is a smartphone that LG announced at the CES 2017. It is one of the new smartphone offerings that attracts a lot of attention in the budget smartphone market. The LG Stylus 3 is a large and comes with a stylus. It tries to offer many of the Samsung Note's features for just a fraction of the Note's price. On design, the LG Stylus 3 is made completely out of plastic. While this does keep the whole package rather lightweight at just 149 g, it does feel considerably less premium in hand compared to metal built smartphones. Keep in mind though that metal built smartphones aren’t necessarily expensive these days so the choice of material here is puzzling. On the bright side, the material choice of plastic allows the Stylus 3 to have a removable battery because the back panel can easily pop on and off. The plastic on the smartphone does not feature patterns or textures, instead, it has a faux-metal appearance. As for colour options, it is offered in titan and pink gold colour. Behind that back panel, there is also a removable 3,200mAh battery, which is something of a rarity in today’s mobile market as batteries are commonly not removable these days. It can provide a full day battery life under normal usage. LG crammed a massive 5.7-inch screen on the front of the Stylus 3. The LCD panel features a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. It has a pixel density of 258 ppi and a screen-to-body ratio of 72.1%. The Stylus 3 body measures at 155.6 x 79.8 x 7.4 mm (6.13 x 3.14 x 0.29 inch). Overall, it isn’t the sleekest device out there for sure but there are bulkier phones out there. Under the hood, the Stylus 3 features a MediaTek MT6750 octa-core processor, a Mali-T860MP2 graphic processor, 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory. The storage can be further expanded up to 256 GB via the microSD slot. This combination of hardware should provide enough processing power for light to medium tasks. The Stylus 3’s operating system is Android 7 Nougat with LG's custom skin. However, it has more elements of stock Android present than there were in past versions of LG's customised software, which keeps things feeling snappy and smooth. The Stylus 3 features a 13 MP camera on the back and a 5 MP front camera. The rear camera features an LED flash, autofocus, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection and panorama. It is capable of capturing videos at 1080p@30fps. The front camera offers an on-screen flash, allowing illuminated selfies. Both cameras are not what you can call good or great but they do the job. As for sensors, the Stylus 3 includes a fingerprint sensor (rear-mounted), an accelerometer, a proximity sensor and a compass. It also includes standard wireless connectivity including Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.2 and GPS. The Stylus 3 is a good choice for users who want the Samsung’s Note features in a phone but can’t afford to pay the very high asking price. With Samsung ditching the entire Note 7 series, there aren’t much choices for a stylus based smartphone anymore. The LG Stylus 3 might just do the trick. If you don't care much for the stylus, however, your other option is the Motorola Moto E4. It also costs $130, but it's splash-resistant and its front-facing camera has its own flash. While its battery doesn't last as long (about 14.5 hours for the same test) and it has an 8-megapixel rear camera compared to the Stylo's 13-megapixel shooter, you can get it for even cheaper, at $70 on Verizon prepaid, or $100 from Amazon with ads.

To sum it all up, LG Stylus 3 is your everyday phone. It’s sleek, lightweight, and easy to hold. With its large screen, you can enjoy watching videos, playing games, and browsing the internet. The stylus that comes with the device is convenient when you need to take down notes on a whim.

If you miss the discontinued Note 7, the LG Stylo 3 is a good midrange alternative. It includes everything we liked about the Stylo 2 and adds a faster processor, a fingerprint sensor, and LTE Plus for superior performance all around. And newer software places it another notch above aging competition like the Galaxy J7 and ZTE Warp 7. That makes the Stylo 3 the best phablet (and best midrange phone in general) you can buy on Boost Mobile, and our Editors' Choice.

The LG Stylus 3 is going to have limited appeal, but for those keen on a large screened smartphone with a stylus this is a solid offering. It’s not a flagship device, but for a mid-range phablet the initial signs are good.

Stylo 3 is not at the same level as Galaxy Note 7 according to Android Authority. The high-end device packs more premium hardware software specs but Stylo manages to have a decent camera with 120-degrees wide angle feature, and a design similar to the top-tier V20.

70.39%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
