Sexy Beast: Taking the Wraps Off of LG's Stunning S1
Source: Notebookreview.com English
This is a premium notebook, no question about it. I think it easily justifies its cost especially when stacked up against two of its closest competitors: Acer's TravelMate 8205 WLMi and the MacBook Pro. In this league the S1 looks pretty good. The choice comes down to the LG S1 or the 8205 WLMi because of the large premium you have to pay for the MacBook Pro. I would take the LG. In my limited experience with the Acer TravelMate 8204 (one notch below the model listed above) I found its chassis to be subject to flexing and creaking. LG's S1 is built out of materials that are much nicer than the Acer (other than the carbon lid on the Acer).

ATI Mobility Radeon X1600: ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 is a middle class graphic card for notebooks of the X1000 series. Its performance can be compared with NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600.

Lower end of Graphics Cards for users who want to play games. New games should run on these cards, but only with decreased details and mediocre resolution.

Intel Core Duo: Double Core processor with a very good relation of performance to current consumption. The 2 MB L2 Cache are used together by the double. The maximum capacity of 31 watts is only 4 watts more than with the Pentium M (predecessor). Both cores are lowered automatically and independently of each other by speed steps down to 1 GHz. In addition it now supports also SSE3 instructions. At least it is just as fast as a equivalent Pentium M. With applications, which were designed for multi-processors, the performance can be nearly twice as fast as with the Pentium M (e.g. CineBench around 86% fast)

15.4": 15 inch display-variants are the standard and are used for more than the half of all notebooks. 15.4 inch display with 16:10 are the standard for notebook displays. Nowadays, more and more 16:9 displays with 15.6 inch appear. The reason why so many people like displays with medium size is, that this size is not exhausting for the eyes, does not need too much energy and the laptops can be kept quite compact.

2.8 kg: This weight is average for notebooks. Therefore the numerous mass of laptops with 15 inch display fits in this class of weight.

LG: LG Electronics is the world's second-biggest maker of televisions and third-biggest maker of mobile phones. With its headquarters in South Korea, the company has 75 subsidiaries worldwide that design and manufacture televisions, home appliances, and telecommunications devices. LG is an international laptop manufacturer of medium size with few reviews.
