It costs up to $649 to repair a bent iPad Pro

Apple is putting its customer’s nerves to the test. After recently confirming that some of its Ipad Pro devices do indeed have a bend that occurred during the manufacturing process, information about the total repair costs have now been released.

If you received an Ipad Pro during the Christmas season you might want to take a closer look at your tablet. In the two weeks preceding the festive season, the media saw an influx of reports from disgruntled customers stating that they had detected a bend in their devices upon unpacking them. Apple has since confirmed the reports, however they claim that the bend occurred during the manufacturing process and that the deviation in flatness still lies within the specifications for the device which is 400 microns (approximately less than a millimeter). The bend is said to have no negative impact on the functionality or life span of the device.

Some customers have already inquired about the cost of repairing the bend after the 14 day return period has expired and the total cost to repair the device using the original manufacturer (according to Apple’s official service pricing) was found to be anywhere between 499 and 649 USD. Customers insured by the company’s “Apple Care+” would only have to part with 49 USD, however the repair service counts as one of the two claims that can be made throughout the duration of the coverage period.

The verdict: Customers are advised to return bent Ipads during the 2 week exchange period after online purchase. Nevertheless the question as to why a premium manufacturer such as Apple would choose to overlook and minimize customers concerns over the obvious defect remains a question for market observers and analysts everywhere, considering the fact that the company offered a response to “Antennagate” and “Batterygate” that was significantly more customer friendly.
