Intel is looking to turn heads with its outgoing Comet Lake-S processors by offering discounts across its portfolio. The discounts come a month before the arrival of the company's Rocket Lake-S and while AMD continues to struggle to produce enough Ryzen 5000 desktop processors.

Intel has begun discounting its 10th generation desktop processors in multiple countries. The discounts vary depending on the processor, but they range from US$7.01 with the Core i3-10100 to US$80.01 for the Core i7-10700F. On average, Intel has discounted its Comet Lake-S processors by 11.5% in the US, although the 25.8% saving on the Core i7-10700F drags the average up by a few percentage points. Excluding this outlier, Comet Lake-S processors have dropped by 9.4%.

Meanwhile, Intel has reduced the price of the same processors in Poland by about 13%. All savings are greater than 10% in this instance, but the Core i5-10600KF is out in front with a 22% discount.

Intel is yet to announce that it has begun discounting the Comet Lake-S series, nor do we think it ever will. The release of the Ryzen 5000 series and the impending arrival of Rocket Lake-S processors probably explains the timing of Intel's reductions, though. As it stands, Intel's Comet Lake-S processors remain easier to source than AMD's Ryzen 5000 chipsets.

The Ryzen 5 5600X and Ryzen 7 5800X are slowly coming back into stock, but that is not the case for the Ryzen 9 5900X or Ryzen 9 5950X. The Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 variants continue to trade above MSRP at many retailers too, so it seems a good time for Intel to push its old stock at a discounted rate ahead of Rocket Lake-S.
