Images of Galaxy Gear prototype leaked online

Teaser
Leaked images of prototype show a bulky accessory with a heavy emphasis on fitness.

With only one day separating us from the official launch of the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, photos of the device have found their way online. The folks over at VentureBeat managed to take a peek at a prototype of the device through one of their sources, and they gathered some valuable info in the process.

The website's source prevented them from taking pictures of the actual device, but an internal marketing video was fair game and stills of the Galaxy Gear were acquired. As such, the images show a bulky, rectangular device with prominent bezels that isn't very aesthetically pleasing. Samsung has been known to use fake shells in the past to protect their designs, and while this may not be the final version, it does give us an idea of what to expect.

As for the actual specs on the smartwatch, it has reportedly been equipped with a 4MP camera built into the strap to go along with a 3" OLED display, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Otherwise, the Gear comes with Samsung's S Voice for commands, FaceBook/Twitter integration and access to call logs, but its "10+ hours" of battery life seem a bit low for a wristwatch.

Samsung also appears to have placed an emphasis on fitness with the watch, as it comes preloaded with apps that track data (heart rate, calories, steps), help devise workouts and keep track of food intake. Of course, we'll have to wait till tomorrow for the final product, but the device's bulkiness and 10 hour battery life could be significant hurdles.
