The new Huawei MediaPad M5 comes in two sizes (8.4 and 10.8 inches) and multiple connectivity/storage configurations. All models feature a HiSilicon Kirin 960 processor, 4 GB RAM, an 8 MP front camera, a 13 MP main image shooter, and run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box (with EMUI 8.0 on top, obviously). This new tablet comes with USB Type-C, but Huawei also decided to drop the 3.5 mm audio jack.

Although tablets are no longer as popular as they used to be a few years ago, Huawei is one of the few big brands still bothering themselves with this market. In fact, the new MediaPad M5 series debuts as the most impressive slates to hit the market this spring, being advertised as "the world first tablet featuring a 2.5D glass screen for outstanding viewing experiences and great hand-feel" with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels.

The Huawei MediaPad M5 debuts with three main models: the MediaPad M5 8.4, the MediaPad M5 10.8, and the MediaPad M5 Pro. The list of common specs and features includes a HiSilicon Kirin 960 processor, 4 GB RAM, microSD support up to 256 GB, an 8 MP front camera, a 13 MP camera on the back, as well as Android 8.0 Oreo-based EMUI 8.0 firmware. The new MediaPad M5 tablets also feature USB Type-C connectivity, a physical home button with an embedded fingerprint reader, as well as Huawei Quick Charge.

Speaking about the unique features of the MediaPad M5 tablets, here is a quick roundup:

  • MediaPad M5 8.4: two speakers, 5,400 mAh battery (up to 11 hours autonomy and less than 2 hours for a full charge)
  • MediaPad M5 10.8: quad speakers, 7,500 mAh battery
  • MediaPad M5 Pro: quad speakers, M-Pen stylus (50 hours battery life on a full charge, 4,096 pressure levels, tilt and shade effects), POGO pins to pair with keyboard accessories, 7,500 mAh battery

All models mentioned above come with Harman Kardon-tuned speakers and can be acquired in Champagne Gold or Space Gray. The prices start at US$429 for the WiFi MediaPad M5 8.4 with 32 GB internal storage, going up to over US$700 for the MediaPad M5 Pro with LTE and 128 GB. For now, only the prices in Euro have been announced, so the US pricing details should become available once the Huawei MediaPad M5 arrives in the area (by the end of May if everything works as planned).
