Price-cutting HD. New smartphones for below 150 Euros (~$163) are no longer inevitably found in scrap corners. Honor presents a 5-inch handset with an HD IPS screen that would also fit well in the mid-range. The fact that it is only powered by an entry-level SoC with little RAM barely had an impact in routine use.
Honor Holly review – one of the new leaders of the low price range
Source: Laptop Media English Archive.org version
We started this review thinking that we’re testing one of the best models from the low range and we’re finishing it with the same thought. None of the components of Honor Holly will show you something extraordinary, but at the same time each and every one of them will deliver exactly what you want to see from such an affordable device. Of course, the smartphone is so lucrative mainly because of its price, but it’s hard to find a phone with similar capabilities from this price range today. We have to mention the higher temperature near the camera area after heavy loads as a downside. We will let you decide whether this issue can be ignored or not.

Overall the Honor Holly was a pretty good phone, there isn’t anything massively wrong with the phone, especially for the price of £89. At that price it is firmly in the Moto G and low end Lumia market and I feel it competes admirably. Yes the inclusion of a better display and 4G would have basically made a reasonable phone into something really rather good, it would have also bumped the price up to “the wrong side of £100”.

For £110 and potentially even less, the Holly represents great value for money and there are very few phones that can match its spec sheet. Just as Motorola has proven, budget phones no longer have to make such drastic compromises as they used to. The screen quality puts more expensive mid-range phones to shame and there's nothing budget about the camera or battery performance.

In this sense, the Moto G comes out on top in almost every respect, but it does cost another £70 SIM-free and doesn't have as much internal storage. This alone will be more enough to sway some users in the Holly's favour, but it's worth bearing in mind that you won't be getting an upgrade to Android 5.0 with the Holly, whereas you will with the Moto G.

I would definitely recommend it for anyone on a budget and not needing NFC or 4G connectivity. The Honor Holly price may drop below £99 but even if it doesn't, it's an affordable Android smartphone. It might not look stylish and have brick-like proportions but it does offer a large HD screen, dual-SIM slots, expandable storage and good battery life. Software is not great with Emotion UI 2.3 and there's no 4G support though.

The Honor Holly may have a clever pricing model, at least for the first four days after launch, but this is the only interesting thing about it. Outside of this the Honor Holly is a bog-standard smartphone that features a slightly dull design and offers average performance. That said, considering its price the Honor Holly does have some perks. Chief of these are a reasonable battery life and a good-for-the-money screen.

The Honor Holly is an impressive, speedy budget phone if you can get past its cheap build quality and iOS-styled Android OS. It won't blow you away though and its price isn't set in stone yet either, but if you want something that's cheaper than the Moto G, it's well worth looking at. We still vouch for Motorola's budget wonder, however.

We don’t know what the final price of the Honor Holly will be just yet, but even at £110, this smartphone represents excellent value, despite the mixed picture on battery life. It has a decent screen, performance is more than adequate, and the camera is much better than most in the budget smartphone sector. Huawei Honor 6 Plus

Huawei's sub brand, the Honor has been consistently releasing great phones for a very competitive price. The Honor 6 Plus is its latest edition to the family. It comes with a 5.5 inch, Full HD IPS LCD boasting a pixel density of 400 ppi. This puts it on the high end range but just below the pocket emptying devices with their 2k (2048 × 1536 pixels) displays. The phone has a plastic exterior with 2 metal strips at the side to give it a premium, metal look. On the back, it is covered with glass giving it a more sleek look. Both the volume rocker and power button are on the right side of the phone making it easy to press the wrong button. The body is only 7.5 mm thick and weighs 165 g, completing that all premium look it tries to give. As for the hardware, the Huawei Honor 6 Plus comes with a HiSilicon Kirin 925 processor clocked at 2.0 GHz and a Mali-T628 MP4 GPU. It has 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. The storage capacity is expandable with a microSD card. The Honor 6 Plus is also a very capable shooter due to its dual setup 8 MP rear camera. This is especially neat as it allows you to fiddle with the captured photo's focus points and add some features to it. In the front is a 8 MP camera. The phone has dual 4G SIM support (micro and nano SIM). The device is powered by a non-removable 3600mAh battery. The only downside to the Huawei Honor 6 Plus is the fact that it comes preinstalled with Android 4.4.2 KitKat at a time in which Android 5.0 is already widely used even in low end devices.

Huawei Honor 7 Vs Honor 6 Plus
Source: Android Authority English Archive.org version
There’s no denying that Huawei’s Honor brand has made somewhat of a splash on the market by offering a premium experience at an affordable price and the Honor 7 is certainly no different. The key thing however is that with the Honor 7, Huawei has made less trade-offs and offers both a premium build and a premium experience at an incredibly affordable price tag.

Honor 6 Plus review – a stylish and powerful phablet with 3 cameras
Source: Laptop Media English Archive.org version
We can say that we were pleasantly surprised by the device with its elegant design, thin body and glass back, as well as its capabilities. Speaking of capabilities, we are not only talking hardware here. Yes, there is an octa-core Kirin 925 processor which showed great results in our tests, but when it comes to software, we’re sure that you’ll find a lot functionality to play with. The rich settings menu, the useful pre-installed apps and the overall appearance of the interface very quickly made us forget about the Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS. As we expected, the 3600 mAh battery offered great durability. And, of course, we can’t forget the dual camera that offers highly detailed photos and some very interesting modes. We were also charmed by the display, which not only provided high resolution, brightness and contrast, but also won’t cause eye-fatigue because it doesn’t emit pulse-width modulation, and bloats with 100% sRGB coverage.

Huawei is one of the biggest manufacturers of smartphones and networking equipment in the world, but few people have heard of it. The Honor 6 Plus isn’t perfect, but you’ll struggle to find a phablet at this price with such good build quality, battery life, screen and performance. Plus its second SIM slot is an unexpected bonus. It’s very good value.

For a medium-range phone, the Honor 6 Plus carries some impressive specs with an octa-core processor, quality full HD display and big battery, features we normally expect to find on a high end device. The Honor 6 Plus is not without its faults, the camera is lower resolution compared to others on the market. Still that is a small price to pay as it certainly is a bargain for the amount of performance you are getting from the phone. All these factors put together make the Honor 6 Plus a serious contender for anyone who is looking for phone that doesn’t break the bank.

Overall for the price the Honor 6+ is a cracking phone, with a few caveats though, all falling under the “you get what you pay for” moniker. The short version is this, the hardware is good, the build and design is good, the camera is amazing and the software is a little lacking. As I mentioned earlier Honor really need to makeup for the lack of Lollipop and the huge upcoming awkward situation regarding Android M, they need to push Lollipop out sharpish and vow to never release a phone with out of date software ever again.

The Honor 6 Plus is a solid pick if you want a high-end phone without the top-end price. In everyday use there’s nothing too glaring to separate this phone from one a good deal more expensive. Real enthusiasts will spot where the Honor 6 Plus can’t quite run with the best, though. While generally powerful, the chipset is pretty dated at this point, the camera isn’t all that hot and it’s a shame the rear is plastic rather than glass.

Is the dual-focus system enough to provide a stand-out experience? Not really. If we're deciding between this smartphone and similar high-end devices from HTC, Samsung, LG, and Sony, the Honor 6 Plus wouldn't be first on the list - or second. This device is meant to operate inside China, where its users are prepared to use Huawei's collection of China-based apps and software. Here in the United States, this device is just a herald of things to come.

Three has announced that it has partnered with Three to bring the Honor 6 Plus to the UK on contract, which is great news as it's certainly a strong competitor to even the most premium smartphones, despite its lower price tag. We're not 100% certain on the UK price yet but the Honor 6 is just £249, so it'll be in the mid-range category and we're expecting a good contract price from Three.

The Honor 6 Plus is an intriguing addition to Honor's UK line-up, and we'll be interested to see how its camera holds up against the very latest smartphones also announced at MWC this week such as the Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and HTC One M9. While Honor's yet to announce UK pricing for the Honor 6 Plus, we wouldn't be surprised if it ended up costing more than its little brother, the Honor 6, which currently retails for £249 SIM-free.

The Honor 6 Plus is available in China and parts of Europe for a price that converts to around $400. That’s a pretty great price for a high end device, though plenty of other Chinese-based manufacturers have been able to meet or even surpass this price point. There are also some competitors that offer extra features like the rotating camera of the Oppo N3 or the fast charging capabilities found on plenty of its other rivals.

Huawei Honor Magic

The Huawei Honor Magic comes with a nice 5.09-inch AMOLED curved display with QHD resolution (577 ppi), and Honor took one step further by also curving the top side. These three round edges are mirrored to the phone's glass back. The moderate body size plus the curved back makes the Huawei Honor Magic feel nice in the palm. The usual Android navigation keys below the screen are gone. They are all rolled into the multi-function fingerprint reader on the front: Press for home, double tap to show recent apps and swipe left to go back. The Honor Magic is available in Golden Black and Porcelain White. It is powered by a Kirin 950 processor, which is the same octa-core SoC as in the Huawei Mate 8. However, it still comes with 4 GB of RAM plus 64 GB of internal storage. As for the battery, it comes with 2,900 mAh battery with new graphite structure courtesy of Huawei's 2012 Lab. According to Huawei’s tests, a 10-minute charge can already get a depleted battery back to 40 percent, whereas a 20-minute charge gets you up to 70 percent. Another addition to the Magic is the infrared camera on the front, which makes use of Tobii's eye-tracking algorithm (similar to the one usually found in devices with Windows Hello function). When a user picks up the phone, the screen will automatically turn on only when the user is looking at it. This means user won't have to find the power button while picking up the phone. Besides that, there is Facecode feature where notification content on the lock screen is hidden by default, but it's automatically displayed when the phone recognises your registered face. In theory, all these features are helpful but only extensive tests can show its true usability. Honor's Magic Live UI is based on Android 6.0 and packs many situation-aware features. For instance, over time the phone will learn that when a user goes to work at 7 AM, the user tends to listen to music. From this situation, it will show the music app's icon in the bottom left corner of the lock screen around that time. Another useful scenario is when user whips out the phone in the dark, that same spot will give the user the flashlight button just in case. All of this is a bit like Google Now but without having to unlock the smartphone. As for the camera, the Huawei Honor Magic features the same set of cameras as the Honor 8, which is a 12 MP f/2.2 dual-lens camera plus an 8 MP f/2.4 selfie camera. It would have been better if Huawei had fitted it with one of its Leica lenses but this does the job too. It supports global LTE bands and dual SIM connectivity. However, secondary SIM is limited to 2G network only. The Magic measures at 146.1 x 69.9 x 7.8 mm and weighs at 145g. The Huawei Honor Magic is a rather interesting phone. It takes the current bezel less design scheme employed by many manufacturers and amplifies it. With the right price, this would be a good device to own especially with its capability to offer uniqueness. Hands-on article by Jagadisa Rajarathnam

Huawei Honor Magic Review: The Smartphone Of The Future Has Arrived
Source: iTech Post English Archive.org version
The Huawei Honor Magic debuted back in January at the CES 2017 and instantly made some noise. In fact, it was considered one of the best smartphones introduced at the popular tech show along with the likes of the Huawei Mate 9, Blackberry Mercury, Nokia 6 and the Asus Zenfone AR. The Huawei Honor Magic is already available in China and will be made available in U.S. and other parts of the world but there's no word yet as to when exactly that will be.

There’s no word on a UK price just yet, or even confirmation Honor will launch it outside of China, but it would be a shame if we didn’t get to try out the Magic. If the price is right, it could be a real mid-range winner.

honor Magic Hands On: honor’s Sleekest (and Smartest) Phone Yet
Source: Lowyat.net English Archive.org version
honor has really made a name for itself in the past few years, and the honor Magic is a testament to that. While the Magic isn’t expected to be made available anywhere outside of China for now, a honor representative mentioned that the second iteration of the Magic may just be a global device. Hopefully, it won’t be too long before this happens.
Positive: Decent cameras; nice design; excellent display. Negative: No memory card slot.

Huawei: Huawei Technologies Co, Ltd. is a Chinese telecommunications company and hardware manufacturer founded in 1987 and headquartered in Shenzhen. Huawei is a global leader in information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices. Huawei provides end-to-end solutions for telecommunications networks, devices, and smartphones, as well as storage, servers, networking, and cloud computing enterprise solutions and products.

In 2014, Huawei established the Honor subsidiary brand under which certain smartphone lines are sold. The Huawei name is usually not listed for these products.

Honor:

In 2014 Huawei created the sub brand Honor and offers certain smartphone series under this name. Occasionally the products are also called Huawei Honor.

The market share of Honor products is manageable, but there are several reviews on Honor smartphones with average ratings (as of 2016).

These graphics cards are not suited for Windows 3D games. Office and Internet surfing however is possible.

ARM Mali-400 MP2: OpenGL ES 2.0 GPU for ARM based SoCs with 2 fragment processors and 1 vertex processor.

Qualcomm Adreno 305: Integrated mid-range graphics card in the Snapdragon 400 and S4 Plus SoCs that supports OpenGL ES 3.0 and features unified shaders.

Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

ARM Mali-T628 MP4: Integrated graphics card (for ARM based SoCs) for smartphones and tablets. Features 4 cores (MP4) and supports OpenGL ES 3.0

Qualcomm Adreno 405: Integrated graphics card for ARM based SoCs. Depending on the used SoC the clock rate is around 500 MHz and features 48 unified shaders.

ARM Mali-T830 MP2: Integrated graphics card for smartphones and tablets with two clusters (MP2) supporting OpenGL ES 3.2.

Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.

ARM Mali-T880 MP4: Mobile graphics solution for tablets and smartphones, which can be found in ARM SoCs like the HiSilicon Kirin 950.

» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.

Mediatek:

MT6582: Quad-core SoC (Cortex-A7) for tablets and smartphones.

:

Kirin 950: ARM based octa-core SoC containing four Cortex-A72 cores for performance tasks and four Cortex-A53 cores to save power. Furthermore, the SoC integrates an LTE radio and a ARM Mali-T880 MP4 GPU.

Kirin 659: ARM-based octa-core SoC (4x Cortex-A53 max. 2.36 GHz, 4x Cortex-A53 max 1.7 GHz) with an integrated LTE modem (Cat. 13) and a ARM Mali-T830 MP2. In our benchmarks around 4% faster as the older Kirin 658.

Qualcomm Snapdragon:

400 MSM8928: ARM Cortex-A7 Quad-Core clocked at up to 1.6 GHz, manufactured in 28nm LP. Supports LTE.

615 MSM8939:

Mid-range ARM SoC with 8 CPU cores (Cortex-A53, 64-bit capable) and an Adreno 405 GPU. Manufactured in a 28 nm LP process.

» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

5.00:

It is a very small display format for smartphones. You should by no means be mis-sighted and you will generally see very little on the screen and only have a small resolution available. In return, the device should be very small and handy.

8.00:

Large smartphones and a few small tablets are available for this display size. Unlike most smartphones, you can see more on the screen, more details and use larger resolutions. Such formats are better for people with defective vision. However, such devices are no longer easy to fit in a pocket, and they are probably not quite light either.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

No weight comment found (one expected)!

78.36%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
