Reviews for the Honor 6X

83.2% Honor 6X Smartphone Review | Notebookcheck
Good and affordable. Although Honor's 6X does not cost much, it is a serious competition for considerably more expensive smartphones in terms of configuration and performance. It is even equipped with a dual-camera. Our review reveals how the Android phone of Huawei's subsidiary Honor fares in our tests.

At $249, the Huawei Honor 6X is $50 less than the Moto G5 Plus and $150 less than the Axon 7. For the extra $50, the G5 Plus gets you virtually stock Android and compatibility with every major carrier. If you can afford to spend more, the ZTE Axon 7 has a sharper display, a more powerful processor, better connectivity, and high-resolution audio. Both are Editors' Choice winners. For the price, however, the Honor 6X is a solid buy, especially if you're a fan of its unique camera abilities.

Sporting a mostly metal design, a fingerprint reader and nifty dual-rear cameras, the Honor 6X has features that you used to be able to find only on phones twice this price. It offers pretty decent performance and above-average battery life. Unless you're a real power user, the 6X feels just as snappy as phones costing hundreds more.

My overall experience with the Huawei Honor 6X could be described as surprising. I did not expect to enjoy using it as much as I did, especially after I got my app drawer back. There is a delightful mix of quality, budget-friendly hardware, software that is mindful of resource management and style that makes this $250 phone just delightful to use and comfortable to purchase.

Honor 6X review - Zippy bokeh-ready value buster smartphone
Source: Tech Nave English Archive.org version
Overall, the Honor 6X is a pretty good smartphone, offering access to Honor and Huawei’s mobile features like wide aperture mode and light painting and also supporting VR or 360 video. It is more than good enough for the normal Malaysian user who wants a piece of the action that Honor is offering with their upper midrange Honor 8 but don’t need the prettier design aspects or extra camera stabilization functions especially at its current price of RM1049 (RRP RM1199). Is it worth that price tag? Yes, especially if you're looking to explore bokeh shots, light painting and VR but don't have the budget for a more expensive phone or DSLR.

The Huawei Honor 6X has two things that the Galaxy S8 does not: dual rear cameras and a fast, accurate rear-mounted fingerprint reader that's actually easy to reach. (Samsung's Galaxy S8 has a single camera lens on the back and awkwardly puts its fingerprint reader to the left of the camera.)

If you can forgive the faults of the software, which might improve once the update to EMUI 5.0 and Android Nougat comes, the Honor 6X is a great value buy. On the hardware and camera performance alone this handset offers a lot of bang for your buck, positioning the 6X, even with its subpar Android skin, as one of the best budget smartphones on the market.

Honor 6X Review
Source: G Style Magazine English Archive.org version
I personally felt like the Honor 6X was a vast improvement over the Honor 5X and that made it much more enjoyable to use. With a price point of $250 it hovers under some of the stronger mid-rangers such as the OnePlus 3T or Axon 7 but that’s good. If you are interested in a ton of features and not spending a ton of cash the Honor 6X is a nice phone to utilize.

For all its looks and features, the Honor 6X remains a budget Android handset. It can’t beat the performance of high-end smartphones, and that will be a deal breaker for some power users. However, for those who want a low price tag on an unlocked smartphone, the Honor 6X offers reasonable performance, an attractive design, a competent camera and great battery life. The Honor 6X is likely going to be at the top of many budget lists.

Honor could have phoned it in on the design and materials, kept it simple, and priced it in the same range or even lower than its previous model. In reality, it decided to up the ante on its “budget” line to increase the pressure on its competition and also improve the experience for its consumers. The device offers great construction, good performance, long battery life, a dual camera that can take good photos.

The Honor 6X, like the Honor 5X is not a bad phone. In fact, it's quite good. But it is brought down by some tough competition. Honor's new phone has an all-metal body, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, a 1080p screen, a very capable 8-core processor, plenty of storage (which is also expandable), a guaranteed update to Android Nougat, a dual-camera system on the rear, DTS audio support and a 3,340mAh battery powering the whole thing. The Honor 6X carries on the same philosophy that the company introduced with the 5X: create a smartphone with a satisfying price-to-value ratio (also known as "bang for buck" ratio). The Honor 6X makes some compromises, perhaps not all that power users would appreciate, but EMUI should offer enough customization and control to satisfy these users.

The Honor 6X is yet another dependable option to consider, just like its predecessor. However, it doesn't really offer any standout feature that would make you want to rush out and buy it. Pricing starts at Rs. 12,999 for the version with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, which isn't bad considering the specifications on offer. However, the version with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage costs Rs. 15,999 which feels like less of a bargain. We wish Honor had paid attention to finer details like Wi-Fi 802.11ac support, a USB Type-C connector, true dual-SIM functionality like the 5X, and perhaps a simpler look and feel to EMUI. The dual-camera setup feels gimmicky and unnecessary, and low-light performance could have been much better.

We think the Honor 6X is one of the best camera phones available in this segment, and at Rs 12,999 for the base 3 GB/ 32 GB model, offers a fair deal of camera muscle. The 4 GB/ 64 GB edition at Rs 15,999 might strike some as a trifle on the expensive side when you consider the Coolpad Cool 1 offers dual cameras at a lower price and of course there is now the looming shadow of the Lenovo Z2 Plus, whose Snapdragon 820 goodness comes in a 3 GB/ 32 GB edition comes for Rs 14,999 now. Honor 6X Camera Review: Whispers Quality, Screams Bokeh!
Source: Tech PP English Archive.org version
The Honor 6X produces some really great shots in different conditions. It definitely takes nice pictures in sufficient light and takes some above average and average shots in low light conditions in terms of details. The camera seems snappy enough but takes a lot of time to process images. Although the company is betting heavily on the hardware when it comes to the camera, but we think it is the software which binds it all together. The software as a whole needs some finishing around the corner as we think the lagging in the Gallery app and the processing time should be reduced if not eliminated. That said, we think the Honor 6X definitely has an edge over other smartphones in this price segment in the camera department. We do not know the final price of the device but if it is in the vicinity of Rs 15,000 as is being rumored, then it definitely is the best camera in that section. Hands down. Its hardware stings like a bee, even though its software sometimes does not quite float like a butterfly…

Huawei Honor 6X Review: More than just a swagphone

Huawei’s Honor 6X is one of the best bets you can get at this price. The dual-camera set up at the back helps the phone stand out against others whereas the performance is not an issue as well. While the phone hits most of the pillars of a good budget smartphone, we still feel that there is room for improvement in aspects like UI and Audio output. Fortunately, the device will get a UI upgrade with Android Nougat soon and we can’t complain much for the audio at this price. The Honor 6X is a terrific little phone – I say ‘little’ despite the ‘phablet’-class 5.5” screen, because it’s still very manageable in the hand, thanks to the thin bezels. CES 2017: Hands-on with the dual camera $250 Honor 6X
Source: Zdnet.com English Archive.org version
People looking for a big screen phone at a very affordable price will appreciate the Honor 6X. It will be available on Amazon, Newegg, ebay, and other online retailers with in-store available in Best Buy, Costco, and others. You will be able to purchase the Honor 6X for $249.99 in gray, gold, and silver.

At $249, the Huawei Honor 6X sits between the less expensive Moto G4 and the pricier Axon 7. For $60 less, the G4 gets you virtually stock Android and compatibility with every major carrier. But the Honor 6X has a nicer build, faster performance, and cooler camera capabilities. If you can afford to spend more, an extra $150 can get you the Editors' Choice-winning ZTE Axon 7, which has a sharper display, a more powerful processor, better connectivity, and high-resolution audio. For where it falls in the middle, however, the Honor 6X is a solid buy, and a promising start to the year.

Buyers are at risk of believing a little too much in the Honor 6X’s amazing-sounding specs, but with a solid camera and good screen there are only two things to put you off. First, the EmotionUI software won’t be to all tastes, and the weak graphics chip means the phone struggles with some top-end Android games unless you lower the visual quality a bit.

Honor 6X
Source: Trusted Reviews English Archive.org version
Considering the price, there’s a lot going on here that should make the Honor 6X a tempting prospect. Yet, I don’t feel like the devices churned out by Honor are matching its millennial and teen focussed image it’s spouting. The design is dull and predicable, the software old and it’s missing soon to be required features like USB-C.

Comment

Model: With the latest addition to the sub-brand Honor, the Honor 6X, Huawei has further secured its position as one of the world’s best budget phone makers. The 6X may share some similarities with its predecessor, but it has a more refined design and a few hardware improvements. The 6X retains the metal unibody design and the corners of the device are rounded off well, which results in a far more ergonomic feel. The power button is on the right-hand side of the device, while the volume rocker sits just above it. On the left, the device houses the dual-SIM card slot and a microSD card tray. The 3.5 mm headphone jack is located at the top right of the 6X, giving it a good position for listening to music on the go while keeping the device upright in the pocket. On the bottom, there is the microUSB port, flanked by two grills – one for the speaker unit and the other the microphone.

Moving around the back of the 6X, a dual camera is perched above the fingerprint sensor. It is worth noting that phones at this price point do not usually come with the added security of a fingerprint scanner, but the 6X does and it feels responsive. Apart from unlocking the device, the fingerprint scanner can be used to capture photos and videos, answer calls and pull down the notification tab by swiping down. The most interesting feature of the 6X is its dual camera setup, featuring a 12 MP primary shooter paired with a 2 MP aperture lens. The latter allows for a large bokeh effect - to focus shots on objects in the foreground and blur the background of each photo. The 6X is probably the first mid-range phone to have this feature. It also has an 8 MP selfie camera at the phone for snapping selfies and video calls. For the display, the 6X sports a 5.5-inch LCD screen with 1080p resolution. The screen’s brightness allows for great outdoor visibility and has good viewing angles. Considering the price of the device, there is nothing outstanding with the display, and it has no problems providing good experience when browsing the web, playing games and watching videos. As for the speakers, they are sufficient for listening to music and watching videos. However, because they are located at the bottom of the device, it is easy for the sounds to get muffled by the user’s hand when handling the device in landscape orientation.

At the core of the device, there is the octa-core Kirin 655 processor chip, 3 GB of RAM. This is an impressive setup for a mid-range phone. Everything is fluid and responsive as expected in everyday use, and the performance runs smoothly even when handling graphically-intensive games. The 6X comes with 32 GB of internal storage. The storage capacity can be expanded by up to 128 GB via microSD card. On the software side, the 6X gets the Emotion UI 4.1, which is built on top of Android 6 Marshmallow. Curiously, unlike a lot of other Android devices, the 6X doesn’t include an app drawer. The 6X runs on a 3340 mAh battery, which is quite sizeable since it is only powering a FHD screen. Thanks to the efficiency of the Kirin 655 processor, the device drains very little power when in standby mode. Even with constant use, the device can last for a long duration before requiring to be charged. It is good to know that more reasonably priced smartphones are starting to feature more and more features that are usually only supported by flagship devices.

ARM Mali-T830 MP2: Integrated graphics card for smartphones and tablets with two clusters (MP2) supporting OpenGL ES 3.2.

Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

Kirin 655: ARM-based octa-core-SoC (8x ARM Cortex-A83 cores with 4x max 1.7 power saving cores and 4x max 2.1 GHz performance cores).» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

5.50":

It is a very small display format for smartphones. You should by no means be mis-sighted and you will generally see very little on the screen and only have a small resolution available. In return, the device should be very small and handy.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

Honor:

In 2014 Huawei created the sub brand Honor and offers certain smartphone series under this name. Occasionally the products are also called Huawei Honor.

The market share of Honor products is manageable, but there are several reviews on Honor smartphones with average ratings (as of 2016).

79.61%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
