HTC set to announce new devices on January 12
HTC may still be in financial trouble, but that won't stop the Taiwanese company from moving forward with its smartphone plans. The manufacturer has reserved January 12, 2017 for potential product announcements and has already sent out press invitations by email to those who can attend the event.
The invite is a simple blue graphic with the words "For U" and the "01.12.2017" event date underneath. It's interesting to note that CES 2017 ends the week prior to the HTC event, so the manufacturer may be skipping CES altogether to avoid being overshadowed by the inevitable flood of announcements from its competitors.
There is speculation that HTC may be ready to announce a direct successor to the lukewarm HTC 10 with a hypothetical HTC X10 or HTC 11. Its current Vive VR headset has also been selling quite well and the company may be expanding its VR reach in 2017.
HTC Chairwoman Cher Wang has stated in the past that the company may exit the smartphone market should the HTC 10 underperform. While the press has praised the HTC flagship, sales haven't quite met expectations. Rumors have been pointing to a new smartphone from the company regardless of the sales performance of the HTC 10.
