With the HTC U Play and U Ultra officially announced, talks are already underway on the next smartphone with "Edge Sense" capabilities.

HTC is showing no signs of exiting the smartphone market despite the lukewarm sales of last year's generally well-received HTC 10. Insider Evan Blass has published new images of an unknown HTC smartphone with new features such as "Edge Sense" to imply accessible menus on one or more edges of the screen.

Perhaps more notable is the lack of a Home button - tactile or otherwise - on the front of the smartphone display, which would be a first for the company. The Taiwanese company previously announced that it would no longer launch cheap budget smartphones and will instead focus on mainstream to high-end devices, so the leaked images of the "Ocean" smartphone could be one of the upcoming U-class smartphones or a direct successor to the HTC 10.

The rumored technical specifications appear to be a slight upgrade from the HTC 10 including the Snapdragon 835 SoC, 5.5-inch display, 4 GB to 6 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of internal storage space. In comparison, the HTC 10 ships with a Snapdragon 820 SoC, 5.2-inch QHD display, 4 GB of RAM, and 32 GB or 64 GB of storage.
