Reviews for the HP Pavilion dv7-2180us

60% HP Pavilion dv7-2180us 17.3-inch Desktop Replacement Laptop PC
Source: Comp Reviews English
HP markets the Pavilion dv7-2180us as an entertainment laptop. This is certainly something that it is capable of but HP focused much more at general purpose performance. With the new quad core processor from Intel and 6GB of memory, this system should have no problem dealing with multitasking or processor intensive tasks like video editing. The downside is that the system is not quite as entertainment focused as it only comes with a DVD burner and a display that doesn't quite reach 1080p high definition resolutions.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650: The Mobility HD 4650 is based on the Desktop 4650 architecture, but features a lower clock rate of memory and core. Depending on the core clock (450-550MHz possible) and the used memory (DDR2, DDR3, GDDR3 with 600-800 MHz possible) the mobile 4650 can show a different performance. The current consumption of the chip alone ranges from 15-25W. Features Avivo HD video features.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Intel Core 2 Extreme: The fastest Core 2 Duo variants of Intel are called Core 2 Extreme. Technically, these processors are based on a Merom/Penryn (X9000) core like all other Core 2 Duo  processors,  too.

X9000: Fastest and most expensive mobile Core 2 CPU at the time of announcement with a higher power consumption of 44 W and 2.8 GHz core clock. Later the X9100 substituted the X9000 as fastest dual core.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

17.3": Meanwhile the 17 inch display size is a more frequently offered standard format for desktop-replacements. The DTR-laptops can't be carried easily, need much energy but on the other side texts can be read easily and high resolutions are no problem. DTR mainly are intended for stationary usage on desks, where the weight and the energy need are unimportant.

3.6 kg: This laptop is heavy below average, compared with the average of notebooks. Therefore especially desktop replacements fit in this class of weight.
