This the dm3t is perfect for the student, the couch user, consumer in search or portability. This machine’s ability to stay cool no matter what you do is really impressive, and the 6 hour battery life for the performance you get makes this machine worthwhile. At $550, the dm3t offers up a terrific blend of functionality and productivity solutions, and is a great machine for entertainment of any kind.

The HP Pavilion dm3t is a significant update over last year’s dm3 model, offering better performance and a more stylish look, all at a lower price. The dm3t is a solid, full-featured productivity notebook with good battery life and responsive performance at a very reasonable price. If you’re up for a lightweight notebook at a rock-bottom price, you’ll be pleased with it.

The HP dm3t price is very fairly priced with the starting price of $599.  I prefer the dm3t over the dm3z due to the better battery performance and lower amount of heat, but the cheaper price tag and ATI graphics on the AMD configuration might appeal more to some people, it depends on your wants and preferences.  The port selection of the dm3t is very good, the screen decent, speakers good and battery life superb.  I’m a big fan of the Intel CULV processors thanks to their good performance and low power usage

HP dm3t review

Man, we really wanted to fall in love with the dm3t. It's small, sexy, and about as well-built as any other PC laptop we've seen in a while, and the spec list is solid, if not spectacular. But it's hard to fall in love with any laptop that has both a substandard display and a terrible trackpad -- the two parts of a machine you spend the most time interacting with. It's particularly frustrating because they're such obvious and glaring flaws in an otherwise excellent machine, and we simply have no idea how or why HP decided to ship the dm3t without fixing them. Now, where's that sandpaper?

This sleek aluminum-clad notebook offers good performance and over 9 hours of battery life, but its touchpad slows you down. There’s a lot to like about the HP Pavilion dm3t. It’s sleek, lasts all day on a charge, and performs well. Plus, you have the choice of adding discrete graphics. Unfortunately, the imprecise touchpad on this machine slowed us down, and literally made us less productive while using it. Overall, we recommend the ASUS UL30A because of its better ergonomics. But if you can live with its few flaws, there are enough things going for the dm3t to make it a worthwhile purchase.

Pure Subnotebook Entertainment With a Graphics Boost. HP is releasing the Pavilion dm3, a subnotebook for consumers, which should score points with its multimedia functionality and hybrid graphics. In this review, we will show you what the dm3 is really capable of and whether it lives up to HP's claims of the dm3 being a "light-weight" laptop with "heavy-weight" performance and up to 10 hours of battery life.
An all-rounder
Source: Star Techcentral English Archive.org version
The HP Pavilion dm3 is by no means a perfect machine as it has its share of ups and downs.

As an entertainment machine, the notebook is capable of playing HD content smoothly and it has a large 500GB hard drive which is perfect for storing lots of media. The notebook has a slick aluminium frame and a compact design but unfortunately it is a little on the heavy side. Plus, you will also need to carry an external optical drive which adds to the bulk. Another problem are the built-in speakers which were incredibly soft and lacked punch. Also, the notebook isn’t really great for gaming.

When HP introduced the Pavilion dv2 in the spring of 2009, it was seemingly the bridge between the netbook and ultraportable gap we’d been waiting for—that is, until we tested it. Now, HP has improved on the dv2 and changed up the design with its new $839 Pavilion dm3, which at first glance, looks more like a bridge between the Pavilion and EliteBook lines. The dm3 has a stunning design and impressive price, but the competition is fierce (and getting fiercer) in the thin-and-light category. If style and portability trump performance, this is the perfect notebook for you

Two words to describe the HP Pavilion dm3-1030us ($648.98 list)? Sleek and slow. The 13-inch laptop eschews common plastic for a brushed aluminum chassis that is both lightweight and rock-solid. As a mainstream laptop, the HP Pavilion dm3-1030us cannot compete. When viewed as a tony netbook alternative, however, this brushed aluminum Pavilion becomes a bit more attractive.

HP's Pavilion dm3, a budget laptop of rare pedigree
Source: PC Authority English Archive.org version
Its slightly porky weight of 1.9kg means that, combined with the below-average battery life, it isn't the most accomplished road warrior. But that's not enough to dent the HP Pavilion dm3's appeal: its great looks, good build, and nice touches such as the external DVD writer, make it a fantastic all-round ultraportable.

HP's Envy laptops are objects of great beauty, but at more than £1,000 apiece they're out of reach for most people. If you're feeling a bit short, though, there's no need to settle for an ugly duckling. HP's Pavilion dm3 pulls of the same trick, but for much less cash. Beautiful build combines with stunning good looks in a budget laptop of rare pedigree.

If there's a burgeoning trend in laptops these days, it's not just inexpensive, low-voltage 12-inch ultraportables, but also 13-inch (and larger) notebooks dropping their optical drives and going ultralow-voltage as well. With a rock-solid feel and a whopping 7-plus hours of battery life, the HP Pavilion dm3-1002 is a professional-looking thin-and-light, but depending on what you put in it, it could cost you.

Priced at around £550, the 13.3-inch Pavilion dm3-1020ea is HP's latest affordable ultra-portable laptop. The company has decided to use AMD's Athlon Neo X2 L335 processor instead of one of Intel's ultra-low-voltage chips, so we were interested to see how the machine would perform both in terms of speed and battery life. Despite its relatively low price tag, the HP Pavilion dm3-1020ea still manages to effortlessly combine slick looks and great performance with impressive battery life. As a result, it's easy to recommend to those after a stylish ultra-portable laptop.

HP's Pavilion dm3-1040us is really designed for those looking at a highly portable laptop that provides a more stable computing experience compared to a netbook. With a $600 price tag, it certainly is affordable but does sacrifice the performance and running time compared to new ultra-low voltage platform laptops. Its lower cost does come with a few annoyances including a display with limited viewing angles and a difficult to use trackpad. Definitely a step up for those than want more than a netbook but don't want to spend too much.

The HP Pavilion dm3 1005AX sells for Rs. 44,990 plus taxes. That is expensive when you compare it with one of its competitors, the Acer Timeline 3810TZ, which sells for as low as Rs. 32,000. The Dell Inspiron 13z, which we thought was one of the best 13-inch laptops under Rs. 40,000, no longer appears on Dell's website. The Vostro V13's price has also been bumped up to Rs. 44,000 now, making it unworthy of purchase. The MSI X350 has a similar price tag like the dm3, but it too has a touchpad issue.

80% HP Pavilion dm3t Review
Source: Notebookreview.com English Archive.org version
Overall the HP Pavilion dm3t offers an impressive value for those looking for a 13-inch travel laptop. Our tests show the optional Intel Core i3 processor delivers plenty of performance, and the Pavilion dm3t's battery life is essentially the same as a much more expensive MacBook Air. The only potential issues that stood out during our review period were the weak and poorly placed speakers, the less-than-impressive touchpad, and graphics that simply aren't as good as what you can find on several cheaper notebooks. If you can live with those annoyances then the HP Pavilion dm3t is an affordable solution with enough performance to get your work done.

60% HP Pavilion dm3-3110us 13.3-inch Ultraportable Laptop PC
Source: Comp Reviews English Archive.org version
With a price tag of just under $600, the HP Pavilion dm3-3110us is certainly not going to be a high performance system. HP's Pavilion dm3-3110us is a mixed package. It certainly is affordable with prices easily found for under its $600 base price tag. It comes with a nice design and excellent keyboard. Bluetooth and eSATA are also standard which is uncommon for such a low priced laptop.

HP: Founded in 1939, the US company is a major server and printer manufacturer and one of the leading IT companies in the world. Until 2015, the company was called Hewlett-Packard Company. After a split, the computer division was renamed HP Inc.

In 2023, HP had an approximate market share of 22% of global PC sales, making it number 2 after Lenovo.

Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Onboard (shared Memory) GPU built in the GM45, GE45 and GS45 chipset (Montevina). Because of two more shaders and a higher core clock, much faster than the old GMA X3100. Still not advisable for gamers (DirectX 10 games not playable or only with very low settings). The integrated video processor is able to help decode HD videos (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2) , e.g., for a fluent Blu-Ray playback with slow CPUs.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330: Lower clocked Radeon 4530 with a current consumption of 7 Watt (according to AMD). Supports DirectX 10.1 and Avivo HD for HD video acceleration.

ATI Radeon HD 3200: Onboard (shared Memory) graphics chip (on RS780M chipset) based on the HD 2400 graphics core. It also features the UVD video engine to decode HD videos. Beware: Under Windows XP the HD 3200 may have no 2D accelleration because of a driver problem.

NVIDIA GeForce G 105M: Higher clocked 9300M GS and therefore a bit faster. Still manufactured in 65nm. Supports Hybrid-SLI with HybridPower and GeForceBoost (in conjunction with the right Nvidia chipset).

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500M: The graphics core of the Intel GL40 and GS40 chipset features a slower clocked GMA 4500MHD (400 versus 533 MHz). Because of the slower core speed, full Blu-Ray Logo support is not given and the gaming performance is a bit worse.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5430: DirectX 11 chip with the codename Park LP, slowest clocked HD 5400 series chip.

ATI Radeon HD 4225: Onboard graphics card (in the RS880M chipset) that is able to decode HD videos (thanks to the UVD2). Technically a slower clocked HD 4250.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics: Onboard graphics card that is built in the new Arrandale CPUs (Core i3 / i5 / i7 Dual Cores). Depending on the model and Turbo Boost, the GMA HD is clocked between 166 and 766 MHz.

Intel Celeron Dual-Core: The Intel Celeron Dual-Core familiy consists out of dual core CPUs for cheap laptops. Compared to the Celeron M single core family the biggest advantage (in addition to the second core) is the Enhanced Speedstep function, which enables the notebook to downclock the CPU in Idle mode. Therefore, the current consumption can be much lower. Compared to the Core (2) Duo or Pentium Dual-Core processors, the Celeron Cual-Core features much less L2 Cache which leads to a lower performance per clock.

SU2300: Entry level dual core CPU for small laptops. Offers only a low level performance due to the low clock speed and because of the Celeron brand some power saving features are disabled.

AMD Athlon Neo X2:

L335: Entry level dual core processor for small and thin subnotebooks. Based on the old K10 / K8 mixture produced in 65nm and compareable with a 1.2-1.3 GHz Core 2 Duo (performance wise).

Intel Pentium Dual Core: The return of the name Pentium, though it is a Yonah core. In fact, it is a double Core processor with a very good relation of performance to current consumption.

SU4100: Entry-level dual core processor for slim and light subnotebooks. Due to the Pentium name, the CPU may have less power saving features than Core 2 Duo processors.

Intel Core 2 Duo: This is the Core Duo and Core Solo successor with a longer pipeline and 5-20% more speed without more power consumption. As an addition to the Core Duo design there exists a fourth decoder, an amplified SSE-unit and an additional arithmetical logical unit (ALU).

The Core 2 Duo for laptops is identical to the desktop Core 2 Duo processors but the notebook-processors work with lower voltages (0.95 to 1188 Volt) and a lower Frontside bus clock (1066 vs 667 MHz). The performance of equally clocked notebooks is 20-25% lower than Desktop PCs because of the lower Frontside bus clock and the slower hard disks.

SU7300: Slow clocked dual core processor with a low TDP of 10 Watt.

AMD Turion Neo X2:

L625: Dual-Core CPU for cheap subnotebooks with an integrated DDR2 memory controller and based on the K8 core. Similar performance as an 1.2 GHz Core 2 Duo.

AMD Turion II Neo:

K625: Dual Core Entry level CPU for small subnotebooks on a performance level with the SU7300 Intel Core 2 Duo.

AMD Athlon II Neo:

K325: Entry level processor with two cores, integrated DDR3 memory controller and a low clock rate designed for subnotebooks.

Intel Core i3:

380UM: The Core i3-380UM is a power efficient ultra low voltage processor for laptops without Turbo Boost and AES functions (compared to the i5 and i7 UM CPUs). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (Intel HD Graphics with 166-500 MHz) and a DDR3-800 memory controller are also included in the package.

Intel Pentium:

U5400: Entry level dual core CPU of the Arrandale series. Does not support Turbo Boost (for the CPU), Hyperthreading, Virtualization and AES. Due to the slow clock speed, the performance is only sufficient for non demanding applications.

75.97%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
