Any number of notebooks come configured cheaper or lighter, but for brute processing power, comfortable, hard-wearing controls and durability, it would be hard to do better than HP’s industrial-strength EliteBook 8560p. With a starting price of $1,099, you’ll pay for all three luxuries, but together they represent a sound investment that should keep ticking well after competitors have fried hard drives, broken keys and hinges that will barely keep the screen up anymore.

Work hard, play hard. That should be HP's motto for the EliteBook 8560p. Though this workstation includes the typical suite of features that business users expect, it also has the multimedia chops to take off its tie and run consumer applications after hours. The HP EliteBook 8650p is a fast, comfortable notebook with excellent battery life and a host of professional-level features, without a huge professional-notebook price premium.

The bulk and weight (nearly 3kg) make it unsuitable for frequent travellers (unless you’re doing regular longhaul flights that may make the extended super-long-life battery worth investing in). If you intend to work desk-bound with a dock, only moving down the hall to the meeting room, or carting your laptop home at the end of the day, this is going to give you the best value for money by far.

As you can see, it's a packed notebook and one that should appeal to demanding users who require lots of processing power both in the office and while out on a job. It's a well built machine that feels sturdy and it has a wide array of useful features. We had a problem with the space bar on our test model, but we're hoping that's an anomaly.

The HP EliteBook 8560w is a 15.6-inch laptop that offers performance that excels to the top of its category because of its Intel Core i7 CPU, 16GB of RAM and a speedy 750GB hard drive. It offers lots of connectivity and ports as well as discrete graphics, but we found the display to be a little small for the 1080p full HD resolution.

Though the display is a bit small for the chores users normally perform at a workstation, the HP EliteBook 8560w is otherwise a very capable unit, and it's affordably priced for its ilk.

The HP EliteBook 8560w provides fantastic workstation performance and a gorgeous 1080p display in an attractive and durable package. However, we highly recommend a pre-configured model to our pricey configuration. Some may prefer the Lenovo ThinkPad W520 workstation because it offers much longer battery life along with a better pointing stick. But if you want a more modern design and better audio quality to go along with your muscle, the EliteBook 8560w is a smart choice.

The HP EliteBook 8560w proves that a manufacturer can offer a powerful, secure, rugged mobile workstation that looks good, too. No, it probably won't be winning any beauty contests against an Apple MacBook Pro, but it isn't a big, bulky, boring rectangle, either.HP's versatile EliteBook 8560w shows that a mobile workstation can be rugged and a solid performer and still look good.

HP: The Hewlett-Packard Company, founded 1935, commonly referred to as HP, is a technology corporation headquartered in California, United States. HP specializes in developing and manufacturing computing, storage, and networking hardware, software and services. Major product lines include personal computing devices, enterprise servers, related storage devices, as well as a diverse range of printers and other imaging products. Other product lines, including electronic test equipment and systems, medical electronic equipment, solid state components and instrumentation for chemical analysis. HP posted US $91.7 billion in annual revenue in 2006, making it the world's largest technology vendor in terms of sales. In 2007 the revenue was $104 billion, making HP the first IT company in history to report revenues exceeding $100 billion.
Up to 2015, the company was named Hewlett Packard Company. After a split, the computer range was renamed to HP Inc.
In the laptop segment, HP was the world's largest manufacturer from 2014 to 2016 with a market share of 20-21% from 2014 to 2016, but they only exceed Lenovo by a small margin as of recently. HP is not present in the smartphone sector (as of 2016).
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
AMD Radeon HD 6470M: Entry to middle class graphics card based on the Seymore XT codename featuring the UVD3 video processor.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850:
The HD 5850 is a slower clocked HD 5870 and is reliant on fast GDDR5 memory to perform in the high-end segment. It is based on the Desktop HD 5770 chip but with a lower clock speed.
Intel Core i5:
2540M: Fast Dual-core processor clocked from 2.6 to 3.3 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.0) based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller.
Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
2820QM: Fast Quad-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller.
