The neutral looks, superb mouse buttons and Trackpoint controller of the HP Compaq tc4200 series will no doubt appeal to business users. This PV984ET model uses a fast 1.86GHz Pentium M processor with 512MB of DDR2 memory and a 60GB hard drive. While it’s priced at an attractive £1,175, it is clear HP Compaq hopes you will lay out extra cash on some accessories. There’s no optical drive supplied as standard, so you’ll require either a USB Multibay II or another external drive to make use of the recovery CDs or the versions of Sonic Recordnow 7 and Intervideo Windvd 5 – both are included in the software package.

The HP Compaq nc4200 Notebook PC has a great keyboard for any laptop--but especially for one that weighs only 3.9 pounds. Other attractive features include the external battery gauge, powered USB port, presentation button, and built-in Bluetooth. Apart from those elements, this business laptop is fairly spare. Unlike most other corporate portables these days, it has no optical drive, stereo sound, or FireWire port. It eschews a wide screen in favor of a standard-aspect 12.1-inch display. For the nc4200's $1549 price (as of 2/16/06), you can buy a different notebook with a much nicer screen, better speakers, and more connections.

For business travelers seeking a powerful ultraportable laptop, the $1,788 HP Compaq nc4200 is a contender with class. Its staid black case accommodates a decent-size screen and a comfortable keyboard, and it delivers enough battery life to get work done on the road. Still, it lacks a built-in DVD drive and business-friendly security features such as a fingerprint scanner or a Trusted Platform Module. For a more fully outfitted ultraportable, we recommend the more expensive ThinkPad X41. If an optical drive and security extras aren't critically important, the HP Compaq nc4200 provides a good balance of portability and power at a reasonable price.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 900: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 is an integrated (onboard) graphic chip with shared memory on Mobile Intel 915GM chipset. It is the predecessor of Graphics Media Accelerator 950. The performance can be compared with the Mobile Radeon 9000 (with a 64 bit memory bus).
Only older games can be played fluently with these graphics chips (if they were not too demanding). Shared memory graphic cores in this category got the advantage of less heat production and longer battery runtimes. For office, internet, image processing, and video editing tasks these graphics chips are still useable without any restrictions.

Intel Pentium M: With Intel chip set (855 or 915) and Intel WLAN also available with the name Centrino (name for the package).
In the comparison very fast per megahertz and very modest with weaknesses in floating point operations.
It is also available as a low voltage version with very small current consumption.
740:

12.1": This is a common display format for subnotebooks. Most netbooks have a tinier display. The advantage is, that the subnotebook can be small dimensioned and can be carried easily. Further the small display needs few energy, which improves the battery runtime and in consequence the mobility. The disadvantage is that the reading of texts is a bit exhausting for the eyes, especially with high resolutions.
>> To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
1.8 kg: These sub-notebooks weight less than the average of all notebooks, but represent a heavier class of weight among the sub-notebooks. 12 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.

HP posted US $91.7 billion in annual revenue in 2006, making it the world's largest technology vendor in terms of sales. In 2007 the revenue was $104 billion, making HP the first IT company in history to report revenues exceeding $100 billion. Market share regarding sales of personal computers in 2007 (market research IDC): HP 18.9 %, Dell 16.4 %, Acer 9.9 %, Lenovo 7.5 %, Apple 5.7 %
78%: This rating is not convincing. It must be considered, that there exist hardly any laptops, which receive a rating below 60%. This notebook is evaluated below average, this is not really a recommendation for purchase.
