This could be part of Google’s study of feasibility of a subscription based model

The Chrome OS is finally becoming a reality, and Google is leaving no stone unturned to market it with some out-of-box ideas. Taking a cue from the service providers’ subscription process were the device is given at a highly discounted rate, Google plans to put a subscription model on the Chrome OS laptops as well.

Part of this plan could be the company’s decision to supply of the laptops to students as a $20 per month subscription plan known as “Student package”. Forbes reports of a senior Google executive mention this deal.

With this deal, Google can enter the very lucrative education sector and let students have the gadget for a relatively less load on their pocket. The laptop model can be anything – Digitaltrends presumes the Cr-48 to be one of them. Google apps should be included in this subscription plan, so that the students can benefit from the enterprise level office suite that sales for $50 a year standalone.
