The new operating system by Google brings Android's power to smartwatches and other wearables and promises to become available for the masses before the end of 2014.

Google has just announced that they are moving forward with a new Android variant tailored for wearables which allows developers to tweak their applications for future watches powered by Android Wear. According to the blog post that revealed this information, the Internet search giant "barely scratched the surface of what’s possible with mobile technology" and everything looks serious already.

The blog article reveals that a Developer Preview can be already downloaded by those interested and that Google is already working with big names in the electronics manufacturing business and fashion groups "to bring you watches powered by Android Wear later this year."

These names include Asus, LG, and Samsung, accompanied by Intel, MediaTek and Qualcomm when it comes to chip makers, then finally fashion brand Fossil Group with a rich experience in making watches.

Android Wear will allow apps built for wearables to provide quick answers to spoken questions, also offering useful contextual information and much more. This is surely a Google project to watch out for this year, next to Project Ara.
