Reviews for the Gigabyte P37X v5
Hot laptop. Gigabyte refreshes its thin 17.3-inch gaming notebook and equips it with a modern Skylake CPU. The cooling does, however, have problems with the fast components and the processor in particular warms up quite a bit.

At just below the $2000 mark, the P37X v5 has a lot of competition in the high-end gaming notebook market. GIGABYTE is taking aim at the competition by trying to slim down the notebook while not cutting down performance, something that is very difficult to achieve. Compared to competitors in the same price range with GTX 980M graphics and Core i7 CPUs, the P37X v5 offers a higher resolution screen and weighs in almost a few pounds lighter in some cases. GIGABYTE has done well with the P37X v5; the performance was excellent, thermals were tolerable, and the fan noise was not excruciating. Overall, I was impressed.

The Gigabyte P37X v5 is good, but not great. For $2,399, the Gigabyte P37X v5 delivers all of the high-end components you'd expect from a premium gaming laptop in a slim, understated chassis. The 4K display is a joy to behold, and the Nvidia GPU and Intel Core i7 processor deliver solid performance.

Not a lot has changed since last year's take on the form, but the Gigabyte P37X v5 remains a good pick if you want an altogether slimmer, less aggressive-looking gaming laptop.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M:
Fast high-end graphics card based on the Maxwell GM204 chip from the GeForce GTX 900M series.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
6700HQ: Skylake-based quad-core processor for notebooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 530 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
17.30": This display size is a standard format for desktop replacements (DTR). The DTR laptops are heavier to carry, need more power, but texts are easy to read and high resolutions are no problem. DTR are mainly intended for stationary desk use, where weight and energy hunger don't matter. In return, you enjoy the advantages of high resolutions (more details, better legibility).» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
2.92 kg:
With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
Gigabyte: Gigabyte Technology is a Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer founded in 1986, best known for its motherboards and graphics cards. Gigabyte offers a wide range of products including motherboards, graphics cards, laptops, monitors, systems and components. Gigabyte's laptops offer gaming and creative features on the go. Gigabyte monitors offer 4K Pro Gaming.
70.93%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
