Gigabyte Aero 17 HDR YC: Great display for creative minds
The Gigabyte Aero 17 HDR is not directly aimed at gamers but rather at creative users. Consequently, a high frequency and good response rates are not the most important factors to consider.
Users who are only interested in gaming will not be satisfied with the Aero 17 HDR YC. Although its brand new GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop provides a lot of power, the low response rate and frequency (60 Hz) mean that other gaming laptops are more suited for playing games, especially as the GPU often can't handle displaying demanding titles at both maximum details and native UHD resolution (3840 x 2160).
Users interested in using the 17-inch notebook for image and video processing or similar, on the other hand, will be pleased with the panel. Apart from HDR support, the panel also offers a large color space with 100 percent coverage of both the sRGB and the AdobeRGB color space. That is very rare in a laptop. The luminosity (of over 400 nits) and color accuracy - thank you XRite Pantone - are great as well. Another advantage compared to our high-end competition is the device's comparatively long battery life.

I discovered my interest in computers in my childhood, growing up with MS-DOS and Windows 3.1 in the early 1990s. I was especially fascinated with computer games, even from an early age. From Monkey Island through Lands of Lore to Doom, I tried every game I could get my hands on. I have been working for Notebookcheck since 2009 with my focus mostly being on high-performance gaming laptops.

I completed my master's degree in translation at the University of Vienna a few years ago and have been working as a translator for English, German and French ever since. I first started translating for Notebookcheck in 2017 and have learned more about computers than I ever imagined, and I have even become the person my family turns to for advice when it comes to consumer electronics. Other than that I also focus on everything connected to sustainability and renewable energy.
