The Xi is also rather quiet and it best of all, it doesn’t squeak nearly as much as my old Inspiron used to. My overall impression is that the build quality seems to be very good. Like most things high tech it has it’s quirks and downsides but overall I’d say it’s a damn fine piece of technology.

Fujitsu Siemens is a name generally associated with solid, reliable and somewhat unspectacular PCs. This release, we suspect, is going to do nothing to change the company's functional image. It may not be thrilling, but the Amilo Xi1546 is a decent laptop. A mid-range T2400 mobile processor from Intel provides the power. Teamed up with 1GB of DDR RAM, it helped the Fujitsu-Siemens to a respectable score of 95 in our WorldBench 5 test suite. The specification of the Amilo is very decent and it's well put together. This unremarkable laptop will get on quietly without a fuss, like all good PCs should, leaving you to concentrate on your work or entertainment. It's fairly priced, too.

At first glance, Fujitsu-Siemen's Amilo Xi2528 looks like any other desktop replacement; in fact it looks more suited to the corporate environment than the home, with its sober dark grey and silver finish. But under the skin there are some surprises - no, make that real surprises - that make it an ideal system for the home.
The old saying "Never judge a book by its cover" is very apt for the Amilo Xi2528. It may look a bit of plain Jane on the outside, but inside Fujitsu-Siemens has bundled nearly every desirable feature you can think of. If they upped the graphics spec this would be one Hell of a system, but as it is it's a very capable, well priced desktop replacement notebook.

Good performance and an impressive specification, but lacking in quality. The Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Xi 2550 (£999 inc. VAT) is aimed at the casual gamer who doesn't need two graphics cards or the fastest possible performance. As such, it's a lot more affordable than much of the competition, and its smaller size is more practical for day-to-day use. The 17-inch Super-TFT screen is impressive, offering lots of detail and good contrast.

Fujitsu-Siemens: Fujitsu, founded 1935, is a Japanese company specializing in semiconductors, air conditioners, computers (supercomputers, personal computers, servers), telecommunications, and services, and is headquartered in Tokyo. Fujitsu employs around 160,000 people and has 500 subsidiary companies. The partnership with Siemens AG was established in 1999 in the form of Fujitsu Siemens Computers (FSC), one of Europe's largest IT hardware suppliers, and owned 50/50 by Fujitsu and Siemens. 2009, this cooperation was terminated, FSC ended to exist. In future, no laptops will be sold with the brand "Fujitsu-Siemens" but only "Fujitsu".
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600: The NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 is a middle class video card of the 7000 series and suited for games of the year 2006. The performance is very similar to ATI X1600 / X1700. Compared to the desktop 7600 it is clearly slower.
ATI Mobility Radeon X1800: The ATI Mobility Radeon X1800 is a reduced version of the X1800XT with still a high current consumption.
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS is the DirectX 10 capable successor of the GeForce Go 7600 / 7700 for laptops and technically a higher clocked 8400M GT. The performance is slightly above the 7600 / 7700 and, therefore, it can represent DirectX9 games fluently. For DirectX 10 effects, the power of the card is not sufficient.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2700: It is a higher clocked HD 2600 and intended competitor to the 8600M GT middle class graphic card. Furthermore, this video card offers some video functions (Avivo HD).
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650: The Hd 3650 is a middle class graphics card (in 2008) and compareable to an 8600M GT GPU from Nvidia. It is fabricated in 55nm process and due to Avivo video engine the graphic card can support the processor with several video operations (HD video too).
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT: Successor of the 8600M GT and because of the smaller 65nm production process the card is higher clocked (and therefore faster) with the same current consumption.Furthermore, it features an improved video processor (VP3) and HybridPower to save current (in conjunction with the 9100M G).
» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.
Intel Core 2 Duo: This is the Core Duo and Core Solo successor with a longer pipeline and 5-20% more speed without more power consumption. As an addition to the Core Duo design there exists a fourth decoder, an amplified SSE-unit and an additional arithmetical logical unit (ALU).
The Core 2 Duo for laptops is identical to the desktop Core 2 Duo processors but the notebook-processors work with lower voltages (0.95 to 1188 Volt) and a lower Frontside bus clock (1066 vs 667 MHz). The performance of equally clocked notebooks is 20-25% lower than Desktop PCs because of the lower Frontside bus clock and the slower hard disks.
T5500:
Slow clocked dual core processor based on the Merom-2M core without virtualization functions.
T7700: Fastest Merom based Core 2 Duo with 35 Watt. The later Penryn Core 2 Duo are a bit faster at the same clock speed.
T7250: Mid-range (at the time of annoucement) dual core processor based on the Merom core.
T9400:
The T9400 is a fast middle class dual core CPU for laptops and basically a Core 2 Duo P9500 with a higher TDP of 35 Watt.
Intel Core Duo: Double Core processor with a very good relation of performance to current consumption. The 2 MB L2 Cache are used together by the double. The maximum capacity of 31 watts is only 4 watts more than with the Pentium M (predecessor). Both cores are lowered automatically and independently of each other by speed steps down to 1 GHz. In addition it now supports also SSE3 instructions. At least it is just as fast as a equivalent Pentium M. With applications, which were designed for multi-processors, the performance can be nearly twice as fast as with the Pentium M (e.g. CineBench around 86% fast)
AMD Turion 64 X2: AMD Turion 64 X2 is intended to be positioned against the Intel Core Duo was presented in 17. May 2006. The current consumption is not higher than with Centrino-Duo-notebooks (TL-45 with ATI Xpress and Mobility Radeon X300). This means, that approximative the same battery runtime and fan functions can be expected (with this chipset). However, the performance was 20% below the T2300 (1.66 GHz) due to the lower L2 Cache (Core Duo has 2048 Kbyte shared L2 Cache). Nevertheless, the performance is sufficient.
TL-60: First in 90nm, later in 65nm produced dual-core processor based on the K8 core. Compareable performance to a 1.8 GHz Core Duo CPU with 1MB Level 2 Cache (Celeron Dual Core e.g.).
AMD Turion X2 Ultra: The AMD Turion X2 Ultra is part of the Puma platform and a mixture of the old K9 core (form the Turion 64 X2) and some parts of the K10 architecture (memorycontroller, hypertransport, crossbar switch from the Phenom). Because of the increased L2 cache ("Ultra" CPUs) and the improved memory controller, the performance increased a bit. Still a similar clocked Core 2 Duo is noticably faster.
ZM-86: Mixture out of two K8 based cores and K10 uncores (e.g. memory controller). Offers improved power saving functions compared to older Turion CPUs but still not as good and fast as a Core 2 Duo. The ZM-86 is the fastest CPU of the ZM series and a middle class CPU in 2008.

3 kg:
With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
4 kg:
A laptop with this weight is comparatively heavy and less designed for mobility than for use at the desk. Therefore, the devices tend to shine less with battery life than with a large screen and higher performance.
84.23%: This rating is slightly above average, there are somewhat more devices with worse ratings. However, clear purchase recommendations look different.
