The A500 gets ClockworkMod port and first custom ROM with Android updated to 3.1

The Acer Iconia Tab A500 is the latest on the line of getting a custom ROM – as reported by Android Central. This is the first custom ROM for the Acer’s latest Android tab, and comes with a 3.1 update that you otherwise would not get right now. The ported ClockworkMod, recovery images and the ROM itself is based off the ASUS EeePad Transformer.

To load the ROM, you’ll first need to root the tablet, and then install the ROM using the Android SDK.

Android 3.1 comes with some interesting new features like improved UI looks and transitions and broad platform support for a variety of USB-connected peripherals and accessories. The platform also adds new support for USB accessories — external hardware devices designed to attach to Android-powered devices as USB hosts. When an accessory is attached, the framework will look for a corresponding application and offer to launch it for the user. The accessory can also present a URL to the user, for downloading an appropriate application if one is not already installed. You can now resize your home screen widgets, and there is enhanced support for external gaming devices.

Go to the following link to get the ROM. Make sure you read the instructions very carefully, as applying of custom ROMs is very risky.
