The Eurocom Electra W560SR presents a mixed value; on the upside it has a gorgeous 1080p IPS display; excellent overall performance; multiple storage drive options; plenty of ports; reasonable battery life and finally a good touchpad. The downsides are centered and the build and design; the overall quality is far below what we'd expect even at this notebook's starting price. The plastics used throughout the chassis are thin and cheap feeling; the keyboard suffers from the same problems. There's a general lack of any features such as nice-sounding speakers and design accents; it's as barebones as the cheapest consumer notebooks. Combine all this with the fact that even in its basic configuration the W560SR is outperformed by competing mainstream notebooks from HP and Dell at the same price point or less. The W560SR is held above water by its display - and for the price of our test unit, that can be had in a competing notebook along with a lot more features.

Filling a gap around $800 price range gaming laptops

One. Wait for the IPS display to come black. Should be soon (meaning, the end of May 2014). Secondly, wait for a discount. Given those two, you’ll get a very cost effective gaming machine with a GTX 850M / GTX 765M performance level, IPS display and two storage bays (one mSata), for like $750-$800 and that’s the best you’ll get with an IPS display.

Eurocom: Eurocom Corporation is a computer hardware manufacturing company founded in 1989 with offices in Canada and USA. Eurocom produces Desktop Replacement Notebooks and Mobile Workstations. 

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M: Upper mid-range graphics card of the GeForce GT 700M series. Based on the Kepler architecture and manufactured by TSMC in a 28nm process.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M: Upper mid-range graphics card from the GeForce GTX 800M series.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.  

4700MQ: Haswell-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.4 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.4 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.

Intel Core i5:

4200M: Haswell-based dual-core processor clocked at 2.5 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.1 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.
