Small update, no effect?! Dell secretly updated its top seller: The XPS 13 is one of the first models that gets the latest Kaby Lake processors from Intel. The chassis does not appear to be changed, and the display is similar as well. We once again do a live review and will update the article continuously.

In most areas Dell XPS9360-5000SLV-PUS just rules. The core performance it offers because of the new i5 processor and solid-state drive is very decent – a person with any kinds of programs would find the Dell a smooth sail to work with. One of the highlights is also the screen with very thin bezels, excellent resolution and bright image. The “cons” section mostly consists of little annoyances such as webcam location and gaming performance on the poorer side. If you however can overlook these little blunders, I think the Dell is totally worth the money for a high-performance ultrabook seeker.

It took a couple of years, but the laptop world finally caught up to Dell's cutting-edge XPS 13. HP, Lenovo, and Microsoft are falling over each other to one-up Dell and putting out remarkably nice computers. Truth be told, if you want a laptop that's thinner or a 2-in-1 design, there's an unprecedented amount of superb choices. Dell itself will be addressing these new competitors with the XPS 13 2-in-1. It's worth noting that the 2-in-1 version loses ports and power (Dell's opted for slightly slower Y-series Intel chips).

The Dell XPS 13 may no longer be the hot new thing of the ultraportable-laptop world. Starting at 2.7 pounds (and edging up to 2.9 pounds if you opt for a touch-enabled display), this machine is almost a pound heavier than the lightest laptops with like-size screens, such as the Samsung Notebook 9 and Asus ZenBook 3. But for the extra weight, you get rigid build quality that's rivaled in this class only by Razer's Blade Stealth and Apple's brand-new 13-inch MacBook Pro.

In the end, you can look at Dell’s latest XPS 13 as a “if nothing’s broken, don’t fix it” moment. It’s arguably one of the best if not the best laptop available. You get that beautiful InfinityEdge display, a super-compact body, and oodles of performance. Not that anyone should resting on their laurels, because the competition isn’t going to sit still for much longer. For now though, it would be hard to beat the XPS 13.

Dell XPS9360-1718SLV might not be the best choice for a casual user because it is so pricey, but a professional who can appreciate the performance should find this kind of a notebook an excellent choice. The new Core i5 processor is a beast for laptop, and the solid-state drive will only help in general performance and booting up the laptop quickly. The screen is crystal sharp thanks to the Quad HD resolution. If you got the money, check out this high-performance Dell!

The big trend in laptops right now is making your system as thin and light as possible but at the expense of shorter battery life and too few ports. The XPS 13 doesn't cave to that peer pressure, and instead gives you nearly 14 hours of endurance and all the connection options you need in a design that's plenty light and compact for travel. Plus, the new XPS 13 offers a very strong Wi-Fi card, which allowed me to connect in parts of my abode where the 12-inch MacBook barely maintains a signal.

Now in Rose Gold. The Kaby Lake update adds little to an already excellent XPS 13 experience. Users will only see marginal benefits in both performance and battery life when compared to the outgoing Skylake XPS 13.

The Dell XPS 13 is more expensive than the likes of the Asus ZenBook UX310UA and Lenovo IdeaPad 710S, but it beats them both in terms of screen quality, build quality and SSD performance, as well as boasting a Thunderbolt 3 connector. If you rely on your laptop for serious work, the XPS 13 is the obvious choice.

Trusted has now reviewed three of Dell’s InfinityEdge XPS 13s and the recipe hasn’t changed a lot, although the base price for these models has risen from around £800 to £999. While a big step up, that isn’t completely out of line with the rest of the industry, where premium component pricing has taken a big upswing.

Dell’s new XPS 13 highlights why the company is prospering while its competitors struggle. Creating solutions that appeal to both professionals and consumers, and continually upgrading them with new technological innovations has resulted in a portfolio that delivers exceptional customer satisfaction and commercial success. Dell’s new XPS 13 is clearly the best examples of this particular line but the view ahead from the InfinityEdge looks remarkably clear and expansive.

One of the great things about Linux is that you can run it on old hardware. But that doesn’t mean Linux users can’t have great new PCs too. The Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition is a fantastic little PC that is a joy to work on, and is designed to run Linux. If you’ve wanted a Linux laptop but can’t stand fighting with unsupported hardware, the XPS 13 is the best (dare I say, only?) Linux laptop you’ll find from a mainstream manufacturer.

The Dell XPS 13 is an excellent ultraportable laptop, the best 13-inch Windows model going for many. Dell hasn’t aimed for a single superlative feature, a potential gimmick. Its footprint is smaller than the competition, but it’s thicker. Its screen resolution is excellent, but display colour is normal rather than super-saturated. There’s also a mix of old and new connections, and a combo of a large battery and smart power management means the Dell XPS 13 lasts significantly longer than most a lot of the time. The balance is just right - we'd spend our own money on it.

Do we still recommend the refreshed XPS 13? Sure we do. In fact, we still think this is one of the best premium laptops out there as long as you can afford it. If not, you won’t make a mistake getting the previous Skylake generation – the difference isn’t that noticeable. Or you can simply opt for the Lenovo Yoga 910 which is also a great alternative if you are looking for a more versatile product and a little bit of extra endurance during the day.

On the new Core i7 model, under lighter workloads that 2-hour battery shortfall has been completely eliminated — and that’s despite still having that same super high-res display. You can surf the web or watch movies for nearly 7 hours, so choosing the faster model doesn’t come with the runtime trade-off that it used to.

Our experiential view of Dell's latest XPS 13 (model 9360) was exceptional. This new Dell notebook consistently exhibited class-leading performance in the ultrabook category and does so, by the way, very quietly. Very few times during benchmark testing did the machine's fans actually spin up to audible levels and when they did, the XPS 13 maintained a very low acoustic profile. Couple its great performance with its exceptional battery life and quiet demeanor, and we began to realize that the new XPS 13 is a highly-tuned, well-refined machine.

The HP Spectre is probably the next best thing, if Dell’s offering isn’t quite doing it for you. The Spectre x360, specifically, provides a 360-degree hinge, while the Dell’s touchscreen only leans back so far. Otherwise, it’s easy to see the XPS 13 is the laptop of choice for most users.

The Rose Gold Edition of the Dell XPS 13 addresses most of the issues we had with the regular Gold Edition, and comes in costing $100 less. It has a top-notch screen, a compact body, premium construction, upscale aesthetics, 11 hours of battery life, a powerful processor, and ports supporting both USB 3.0 Type-A and the latest USB-C with Thunderbolt 3 technology. While it is a bit thicker than the Asus ZenBook 3 and the newest Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch, it has a higher-resolution screen than both, as well as better connectivity, which you'll need as long as USB 3.0 remains the prevalent standard (probably for another half-dozen years or so).

Quiet evolution. The Kaby Lake i5-equipped version of Dell's XPS 13 subnotebook with FHD display impresses with outstanding battery live, great performance and top-notch ergonomics. The display, however, falls a tad short of our lofty expectations.

So what if competing laptops are a hair slimmer and a bit lighter than the XPS 13? Dell's laptop is still plenty portable, and rival systems can't touch its long battery life or solid selection of ports. Strong multitasking performance and a pretty nice keyboard round out the package.

The big trend in laptops right now is making your system as thin and light as possible but at the expense of shorter battery life and too few ports. The XPS 13 doesn’t cave to that peer pressure, and instead gives you nearly 14 hours of endurance and all the connection options you need in a design that’s plenty light and compact for travel. Plus, the new XPS 13 offers a very strong Wi-Fi card, which allowed me to connect in parts of my abode where the 12-inch MacBook barely maintains a signal.

More GPU or more CPU performance? Dell offers the popular XPS 13 with faster Intel Iris graphics, but can the cooling solution handle the additional performance, and is it a good upgrade? Or should you get the one of the new Kaby Lake-R chips instead?

We continue to be impressed by Dell's XPS 13. With an update to an Intel 8th Gen Core processor, one of the best ultrabooks on the market just got better. Pricing starts at $1,199 for a model equipped with a new generation CPU, though as configured, the model we tested primarily here (3200x1800 IGZO touch panel) runs $1,854.99. That is a premium price for sure, but it is also a performance oriented configuration with a healthy 16GB of RAM and a capacious 512GB NVMe SSD, along with a beautiful, high-res 3200x1800 touch display. Whether you need such a meaty setup or can get by with a tamer configuration, the XPS 13 is a highly recommended machine.
