Dell's 13.3in business laptop is certainly affordable, but there's room for improvement.

All said and done, the Dell Vostro 3300 laptop is a sophisticated 13-inch business laptop, combining elegant style with top-notch performance. The Dell Vostro 3300 is decently priced for a business laptop -- it's available for as low as Rs. 36,000 but our review sample's configuration sells for a price of Rs. 50,000. It offers much better performance than the Dell Vostro V13, Lenovo Thinkpad T400s, and HP ProBook 4520s, comes with a nice feature set and security software tailored for business usage. If you run your own business or are part of a small organization craving for a premium-looking, stylish compact 13-inch business laptop which is thin and light with excellent performance, we highly recommend the new Dell Vostro 3300.

Overall, the Dell Vostro 3300 hits a solid combination of features in a sleek, compact package. Dell has managed to make an ultrathin small-business laptop that's just a little sexy, but also just boring enough not to attract too much attention.

The Dell Vostro V3300 offers plenty of performance and style to small business customers for a reasonable price. You’ll just need to make sure to attach the somewhat hefty 8-cell battery to get more than 5 hours of battery life. The similarly priced Lenovo L412 has a slightly larger 14-inch screen and comparable performance. Some may prefer the Core i3-powered Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 14, but overall we prefer the Vostro because it’s powerful yet still fairly portable.

Small businesses no longer have five-figure budgets to spend on laptops. Even big corporations are cutting down on IT expenditures. For this reason, Dell launched its Vostro line a couple of years ago, geared toward small businesses, startups, and corporations that don't need the bells and whistles of an enterprise laptop. The Dell Vostro 3300 ($1,142 direct) is very mobile, as it's the smallest in this line and features a 13.3-inch widescreen. Though it's small in size, it sports powerful parts can cater to any big league professional. I wouldn't recommend buying it without the 80WH (8-cell) battery, though.

Positioned between the business-targeted Latitude and the mainstream consumer Inspiron lines, Dell's Vostro has always been the type of computer that's half-meant for personal use, half for business: it's casual professional.v The small-business-targeted Dell Vostro 3300 is a compact, stylish-looking laptop selling at a price that's reasonable. If it had a more robust battery, this would be an excellent travel companion.

Dell Vostro 3300 Review

Overall I come away being impressed with the Dell Vostro 3300 as it offers a lot of bang for the buck.  For under $700 I got a high quality built laptop with good performance and a light weight.  The poor battery life is a bummer for sure, if you need more than four hours on battery you’ll have to get the larger 8-cell battery which will add weight and cost.  The fact you get a new Core i3 or i5 processor, optical drive built-in, weight of around 4 lbs, aluminum case, appealing design and very mobile form factor all for $700 - $1,000 depending on the configuration I would consider the Vostro 3300 a strong buy for students and business workers that are interested in this laptop.

Third dimension. Apparently, there is a trend to 13-inch notebooks. That's not surprising, because this size offers an excellent mobility and at the same time a performance close to bigger competitors.

Slimmed Vostro. Dell has not only reworked its smallest, 13 inch scion from the business sector, it has also been put a radical diet. This leads to a mostly successful symbiosis of office laptop and ultrabook that will particularly appeal to students and business travelers.

Of course, it has its issues, with the poor battery life as a main concern, but for the money, you’ll hardly find a better business 13.3 inch laptop right now, although you should at least consider 13.3 inch ultrabooks as well if you’re willing to spend close to $1000 for your next notebook.

Yet, despite its average ergonomics and display, the Vostro 3360 is a solid all-rounder. Good performance is married with reasonable reserves of stamina, and the asking price is low for a laptop of this specification. Small businesses, students and just about anyone seeking an inexpensive ultraportable would do well to put the Dell Vostro 3360 on their shortlist.

Dell Vostro 3360 – Review

Dell has given the Vostro range the Ivy Bridge treatment to produce the all-new Dell Vostro 3360. The Dell Vostro 3360′s performance is fine for most uses, but the fact that the machine doesn’t excel in any category means it might be worth upgrading to the full-blooded 15-inch Vostro 3560 for a better all-round package.

Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.

NVIDIA GeForce 310M: The GeForce 310M is the successor of the GeFore G210M and based on the same chip with very similar clock rates (shader speed +30MHz to 1530MHz).

Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics: Onboard graphics card that is built in the new Arrandale CPUs (Core i3 / i5 / i7 Dual Cores). Depending on the model and Turbo Boost, the GMA HD is clocked between 166 and 766 MHz.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Intel HD Graphics 4000: Processor graphics card in the high end Ivy Bridge models. Offers a different clock speed in the different CPU models (ULV to desktop quad core) and therefore a different performance.

» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.

Intel Core i5:

430M:

The Core i5-430M is a middle class dual core CPU that features only 3 MB L3 Cache (compared to the I7-640M) and clocks between 2.26-2.53 GHz (Turbo Mode). Furthermore, VT-d, trusted Execution and AES features are missing in the 430M. Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (Intel HD Graphics with 500-733 MHz) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.

3317U: Ivy-Bridge-based ULV-CPU in Q2 2012. Offers a core clock of 1.7 - 2.6 GHz and an HD 4000 GPU (350 - 1050 MHz). The TDP is rated at 17 W.

Intel Core i3:

370M: The Core i3-370M is a fast clocked Core i3. The TurboBoost, AES, VTd, and Trusted Execution functions are deactivated in the i3-series. Therefore, it always clocks with max. 2.4 GHz (of course Speedstep is included). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.

13.3: This is a common display format for subnotebooks. Netbooks, UMPC and some subnotebooks have tinier displays. Nevertheless, the majority of standard laptops has a higher format. The advantage of a small display is, that the subnotebook can be small dimensioned and can be carried easily. Further the small display needs few energy, which improves the battery runtime and in consequence the mobility. The disadvantage is that the reading of texts is a bit exhausting for the eyes, especially with high resolutions.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

1.67 kg:

This sub-notebook weighs less than the average of all notebooks and represents a medium class of weight among the sub-notebooks. 11 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.

1.973 kg:

These sub-notebooks weight less than the average of all notebooks, but represent a heavier class of weight among the sub-notebooks. 12 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.

78.31%: This rating is not convincing. The laptop is evaluated below average, this is not really a recommendation for purchase.
